The Florida Legislature approved a new congressional map intended to maximize Republicans’ advantage in the state as part of the national redistricting battle that President Donald Trump launched ahead of this year’s midterms.

The vote came just two days after Gov. Ron DeSantis unveiled his proposal and the same day that the U.S. Supreme Court rolled back a key provision of the Voting Rights Act. The decision could make it harder for Democrats to challenge Republican efforts to redraw congressional districts in ways that limit the influence of nonwhite voters.

DeSantis’ map could increase Republicans’ advantage in Florida’s House delegation to 24 to 4, up from the current split of 20 to 8. The potential four-seat gain is the same as what Virginia Democrats expect from a recent redistricting referendum, which is being challenged in state court there.

With today's 6-3 SCOTUS ruling on the unconstitutionality of using race to gerrymander districts, it's gonna be interesting to see how redraws and districts are affected. A lot of variables affecting this years' Midterms, and no one on either side really knows how things will shake out at this point.

he is dead solid correct that during the Biden years many of these illegals were allowed to come in, perhaps even brought in, for purposes of the Census. Eliminate illegals from being counted as part of the apportionment process, and Democrat support for illegals will dwindle to zero overnight. Or maybe quicker.

the City came out to run homeless people off my land (City initiative). The homeless people were offered spots in shelters. All refused, and all ended up in new encampments on land about a mile away. One fellow said he didn't want to give up his independence.

Might be a Pyrrhic victory.

Between the Straight Ticket Democrats and the antiTrump TDSers, Talarico has a better chance now, plus the RNC will have to spend a ton of money on this race. Not a good outcome.

In the runoff, I considered Cornyn the lesser evil. In October, Paxton will be the lesser evil, by a country mile. Hard to imagine Six-Genders Talarico as the lesser evil against anybody. Mamdani would be the lesser evil versus Talarico.

Unfortunately the coalition mentioned above, plus the ones who will piously vote for third parties as a protest, may be enough to put Talarico in office. An idiot elected by idiots.

I fear for our country and my state. Maybe it is good that I am going soon.

If able, I will vote on the first day of early voting.

The only silver lining I see is that it might show the power of Trump to influence common sense Americans.
