It did tickle me though when I saw the Republican ad of Talarico at the bbq place…and making the not so subtle accusation that he was actually a… vegetarian? Vegan?
The horror.
Well,
this is the source of the ridicule.
In it he makes the following statement:
"It is now existential that we try to reduce our meat consumption, and that we try to respect animals,". Unclear if "reduce" refers to his personal consumption or his plans for everybody's consumption. Apparently respecting animals includes not eating them, so turkeys, chickens, oysters, fish, etc. should be included in the no-eat category.
I used to import large numbers of Mexican cattle, and I leased my ranch to cattlemen for grazing. Beef is a big mover of the Texas economy, maybe second only to oil and gas (wait a minute...). Our Gulf coast fishing industry is based on selling the catch for food. Sounds to me like he has animal rights ahead of the economic interests of Texas and Texans. Why should we elect him and help put our friends and neighbors out of business?
In any case, his expression while nibbling at a rib is priceless.
On another matter, his declaration that there are six genders, I had a lady ask me what was the first question somebody asks on the birth of a child? It is "boy or girl?", not "which of the six genders is it"?
Paxton is a flawed candidate, not a good guy, but for Texans, he is by far the lesser evil. And we realistically have only the two to choose between.
