1. Create as much pain/chaos/disruption as possible.
2. Blame it all on Trump/GOP.
3. Goose their own turnout in the elections last week.

Ok, now why are they doing it? That was a week ago. And Schumer and most other Dems still want it. Makes no sense.
The first two still apply

They want the Government involved in EVERYTHING. The answer to every question to Why do the Democrats want something the answer is always: POWER.

Durbin is a bit of a surprise. The others are all in states where they could lose.

Exactly. Durbin and Shaheen are both retiring, so they are doing this to protect some of their colleagues who are afraid to go against the base.

Yep, especially those who are in battleground states.

Actually it is control.... by having control they also gain power by default.

The press to do the job they did and paint them as the good guys and President Trump and Republicans as meanies that don't care. Honestly its not a hard sale because most people don't follow this shite daily.

So if you are spending anytime on yahoo or google or reading headlines. It gave the impression Republicans wore the black hats.

Other than the healthcare junk, what did the Republicans really stop with the holdout? Other than knowing a lot of Sr's that was hurt by no SNAP this shutdown did not affect me at all.

I paid very little attention to it other than seeing headlines and titles of threads on this board. Probably clicked 1 maybe 2 of those and read 3 to 6 post before like most topics, it turned into a pissing contest between a few. So I read very little.

So that's a honest question on what did anyone gain or expect to. Another honest comment....

if I did not know better (even if I didnt keep up with this to know the side the press was on) it would have been easy to think by the headlines its mostly Republicans fault and not a good reason as to why. So I think Democrats got what they wanted.

yep, I upset the board by pointing this out before the elections. The democrats were able to shift blame on Republicans right before the elections and yes I understand it was in areas where dems were supposed to win, but it also added to the optics and motivated and raised the morale of dems everywhere.

I especially liked the "Republican Healthcare Crisis"... How in the hell does anyone fall for that? But, they do. they absolutely fall for it.

I am also not popping the cork until we actually see the signatures on the bill.

They were able to motivate the base to show up, not necessarily change any votes.

Motivated? How about you quit paying 347,000 federal workers in Virginia and make sure they all have the day off to go vote on election day? That's something way beyond motivating.

The left views it as moderate Democrats caving.

The far left has no concept of political strategy. Schumer is setting up for next year's midterms. He's doing a pretty good job.

She's also stupid. Republicans didn't cut ACA subsidies. The legislation the democrats passed had a sunset provision. She should blame them.
