Nope. Colbert got canceled because he's not funny, which caused him to lose viewers. He got canceled because he kept criticizing one side of the aisle, which again caused him to lose viewers, and not both, like Jay Leno would do. Heck, he got canceled for not adhering to the Johnny Carson formula and leaving politics alone.

When you constantly attack half the country when you're supposed to be funny, you're going to lose that audience. That's what happened with Colbert, and that's what's happening with Kimmel. Again, if that's an issue, maybe they should either go after both sides or just don't talk about it at all. (But that's just too simple for certain people to comprehend.)

My take on this: Convenient excuse to get rid of the show because it's a money loser. I think late night weeknight comedy shows have been dying for decades. It was legacy that kept them there. If they were smart they'd look into the following options (IMHO):

1) Put some cheap show together to recap the current events of the day to get to midnight or 1 am and put the off air sign back up until 5 am

2) Throw some reruns of old shows that they don't make money off of. I get it that old shows are money makers for their streaming platforms...but c'mon they probably have some real losers even on streaming that can be used for OTA filler

3) Resurrect the "horror movie host" shows that were popular in the past. Or maybe some MST3000 type of show. That's more limited since you'd need something for 5 nights a week.

Bottom line - it's about the bottom line.

I haven’t gone thru all 4 pages of posts, but late-night talk shows are dinosaurs. The ratings suck across the board. This concept worked extremely well in the decades past but people can just watch/listen to a podcast now. Like Colbert, he has been costing the network money, so it is easier to part with versus someone who is bringing in money hand over fist.

Yep. I know this is a complicated situation for lefties to understand, but here's a summary of what happened:

Last night, officials at Nexstar, a company that owns a number of local TV stations across the country, including 28 ABC affiliates, announced the decision to pull the Kimmel show off their networks.

Not long after, Sinclair, which owns more ABC stations than any other affiliate group (including the ABC station in Washington D.C.), announced a similar action.

Within minutes, ABC then announced it was pulling the Kimmel show.

The end. Not really that complicated, after all.
