According to CNBC, the Supreme Court said, “the asserted harms to the Executive’s conduct of foreign affairs appear to outweigh the potential harm.”

CNN reported:

The Supreme Court on Friday allowed President Donald Trump to freeze $4 billion in foreign aid payments, handing the White House a significant victory in its months-long quest to claw back spending that was approved by Congress last year.

At issue is $4 billion in foreign aid, including for global health and HIV programs, that was allocated by Congress, but that Trump deemed wasteful and has been fighting on two fronts. In addition to defending the aid cuts in federal court, his administration is also seeking to “rescind” the money through Congress.

Earlier this year, Judge Ali temporarily blocked President Trump from cancelling foreign aid contracts.

Judge Ali ordered the Trump Admin to restore funding for the foreign aid contractors after Trump froze US foreign aid for 90 days.

After Trump’s executive order to halt foreign aid grants, Secretary of State Marco Rubio issued new guidance to temporarily pause spending on most foreign aid for 3 months.

Judge Ali previously said Trump’s order halting foreign funding caused enormous harm.

I know I'm probably wrong but I just can't see him coming back over here with his batting average with Trump and the Courts. He spouts off about the Constitution and President Trump saying he can't do this and he can't do that. I think he's been wrong on almost everything. The one thing is, he has never admitted he was ever wrong about anything concerning Trump and the Courts. But you know he will be back he just can't help himself.

Encouraging decision from the Court, but this is not a ruling on the merits — simply agreeing to put a stay on the lower court’s order until they have a chance to analyze all the details.

I have sometimes tried to project how “President Hillary Clinton” would have turned out. Granted that nobody can unwrap all the angles to that hypothetical, but at bare minimum, the Supreme Court would (right now) have 3 in the Kagan/Breyer camp, and 3 more in the Ketanji/Sotomayor camp.

Every decision — Every. Single. Decision. — would represent whatever consensus those two factions could work out. Except for the unanimous cases, Thomas/Alito would probably be in dissent about 95% of the time (100% of the time is very possible), and Chief Roberts would be about 75% of the time.

For someone like me, “disaster” is way too weak of a description for what that would mean in day-to-day life. While I’m just too old and worn down to start over, I would (in that scenario) absolutely be helping my kids figure out a different country to live in, to build a more stable future than what they could have here.
