Yeah...that never happened...not a thing. They never claimed to only sell American made products. They used to highlight those items that WERE American made in their stores and advertising, but they dropped that in like 2015 because people were finding items that weren't only American made.
I think Sam Walton had intended this when he started it, but that never materialized for obvious reasons.
Yeah I should have said they focused extensively on selling only American made products when possible. Now they don't even pretend to do that.

Yeah, I don't get all the faux leftist outrage.
As far as the market downturn, I always buy during market downturns. It's a strategy that has never failed me.

Trade imbalances mostly hurt the US. We import far more than we export - especially when it comes to the consumables (not just food, but stuff - everything from electronics to clothes).
Again - I will pay more for AMERICAN MADE - it may take a little while to get those things MADE in America again, but we need to take our control back.
I watched some story about this Dress shop owner complaining that her Wedding Dresses were ALL MADE IN CHINA and this is gonna hurt her business.
Buy American Made and tell everyone that is what you do - you will win in the end.

Correct, in some cases they still aren't as much as the tariffs placed on our products. Furthermore leftists who supported Harris have no standing to complain on this as she was proposing higher corporate taxes and taxes on unrealized capital gains both of which would have more inflationary impact than tariffs.

Thailand was slapped with 36% in reciprocal duties, according to a chart shared by U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday.
Chunhavajira added that Bangkok will hike imports of U.S. goods and remove tariffs on certain U.S. products, among other steps taken to sustain exports. Thai exports to the U.S. amounted to $55.11 billion in 2024.
Its working.
Also, crude oil is down 6% today as Opec increases production.

You have to be able to think for yourself and not rely on what you are told. Taxing corporations is going to raise the price of every product including those made here. Raising corporate taxes incentivizes corporations to move to countries with lower corporate taxes. Tariff impacts are going to impact products from overseas with the impact varying depending on that countries tariffs on us. That would incentivize companies to move back here.

RE: Trump's reciprocol tariffs are starting to work in a big way
I understand tariffs are a tax, but something must be done to address the pervasive and destructive impact on many American citizens of barriers of trade (including tariffs) placed by other counties.
Tariffs, however, do not have same impact on everyone. Some people (especially those with steady or well paying jobs, or healthy retirement funds), will have increased costs, but others (especially those gaining higher paying jobs due to tariffs) will be better off financially.
I would prefer free trade without barriers among friendly nations except for items needed for national security, but now we are taken advantage of by other countries.
Trade imbalance an issue. It should be a problem addressed in a bipartisan manner. No one has a monopoly on good ideas and a powerful strength of our Republic is free and open debate. Unfortunately, the Dem's blinded by hate and erosion of their power, completely oppose everything proposed by Trump with no attempt to engage or offer a better plan.

Regulations with costs greater than their benefits are a form of tax, also, in the sense they make things cost more than necessary.

Absolutely. We also kneecapped ourselves during Biden's term with his New Green Deal veer which caused energy prices to spike. It makes no sense to shutter our coal plants, which burn cleaner than China's, just to turn around and sell China the coal to run all the coal plants they are currently building.

(04-02-2025 10:28 PM)Tiger1983 Wrote: Per AI inquiry:
Key Examples of Tariffs Charged on U.S. Exports
China
Cars: 25% (compared to the U.S. charging 2.5% on Chinese cars).
Agricultural Goods: Average of 15% (U.S. charges 5% on Chinese agricultural imports).
General Average: Posts on X and some analyses suggest China’s tariffs on U.S. goods average around 20-25%, with specific retaliatory tariffs (e.g., from the 2018 trade war) reaching up to 67% on certain products like motorcycles or whiskey.
European Union (EU)
Cars: 10% (U.S. charges 2.5% on EU cars).
Agricultural Goods: Average of 11% (U.S. charges 5%).
Motorcycles: Around 6%, though retaliatory tariffs from Trump’s first term raised rates on U.S. motorcycles (e.g., Harley-Davidson) to 31% temporarily.
General Average: The EU’s trade-weighted average tariff on U.S. goods is often cited around 5-10%, but specific sectors face higher rates.
Canada
Agricultural Goods: Average of 15% (U.S. charges 5%).
Dairy Products: Up to 270% on milk, 245% on cheese, 298% on butter (highly protected sectors).
Cars: 25% (pre-USMCA, now largely 0% under the agreement, though retaliatory tariffs of 25% were imposed in 2025 on $20.7 billion of U.S. goods like orange juice and coffee in response to U.S. actions).
General Note: Before recent escalations, most goods were tariff-free under USMCA, but historical and retaliatory rates are higher.
Mexico
Agricultural Goods: Average of 14% (U.S. charges 5%).
General Average: Mexico’s tariffs on U.S. goods were minimal under USMCA until recent U.S. tariffs prompted threats of retaliation (details pending as of April 2, 2025).
India
Agricultural Goods: Average of 39% (U.S. charges 5%).
Motorcycles: 100% historically, reduced to 30-40% in 2018 (U.S. charges 2.4%).
Whiskey: 150%, lowered to 100% in February 2025 after U.S. pressure.
General Average: India’s tariffs on U.S. goods are among the highest, often cited around 26-39% trade-weighted.
Japan
General Average: Around 24% reciprocal rate suggested in 2025 U.S. policy, implying Japan’s tariffs on U.S. goods are roughly double that (48% estimated by U.S. calculations).
Agricultural Goods: Historically high on specific items (e.g., rice at 778%), though most industrial goods face lower rates under trade agreements.
Honestly, I was not aware of the extent of the inequity of tariffs placed by other countries. They bend us over and have their way - at least until now.
Thanks Captain Obvious.

Raising corporate taxes incentivizes corporations to move to countries with lower corporate taxes. Tariff impacts are going to impact products from overseas with the impact varying depending on that countries tariffs on us. That would incentivize companies to move back here.
No ****, sherlock. But nowhere close to this extent...at least the economists think. The way he's going about this is so chaotic they can't even begin to calculate how bad this will be.
Tariffs can achieve what you're talking about when they're targeted...like we always have done. But blanket nonsense like this all at once, is incredibly stupid and reckless. Not to mention there's WAY more than just material costs factoring into decisions as to why companies diversify into other countries.
