Interesting... I had 2 grandfathers fight in WW2 as well, 1 in the Navy the other in the Army. Both would not have cared whatsoever as long as the person next to them was properly trained and trustworthy. They just needed to believe the person next to them had their back.

I had a father and two uncles fight in WWII. There was no such thing as a "transgender" back then.

And if there was, they would not be allowed to serve, or if they somehow were in, they would be discharged on medical grounds.

Or, one of their fellow combatants would push them out of the foxhole during live fire. Or push them overboard in the middle of the Pacific.

And let me be clear. I have ZERO problem with them as civilians, just a huge problem with them in the military, b/c mentally ill folks are a danger to safety. We normalize this behavior when it is NOT normal. Civilian life is fine. Military, your own life now depends on the action of others. Schizophrenics aren't allowed in the military, or anybody else with a mental illness that is known.

Definitely before the major changes in views towards gay marriage, trans stuff, etc.... but they also were very clear when they would talk about the war that they considered everyone their brother and that they didn't care about anything other than you were fighting on their side and you were capable of following orders and strategy. They both were VERY liberal in terms of their views of treating others... not an ounce of racism or anti-gay sentiment from them.

One grew up as an Orthodox Jew in the Bronx and the other a dirt poor country boy from Lexington TN, literally had nothing, not even a real pair of shoes. He was so used to not wearing shoes when he was drafted he wouldn't wear shoes around camp and the guys nicknamed him "shorty".

Anyway, I read Triple As subsequent response and that's where I stand.

This is a mental issue and all of those(mental illness) that are serious in nature preclude you from serving. So no dice for me... unfit is unfit.

Seriously? They would have thought the whole idea of a trans was crazy. So did 99% of Americans 20 years ago, let alone 80.

I'm sure my two WW2 grandfathers would have thought it was nuts.

Let me add a little context to my comments. In my 4 years of active duty in the Navy (1968-1972), I lost 8 shipmates to various operating accidents, and I was never in a combat zone.

Four in two separate plane crashes, one fell overboard in the Med, one got run over by a plane shooting off the catapult, one more where I forget the details, and finally, a friend who was standing across a wide airfield from a hangar, when a helo came too close to the building, clipped it with the rotor, and a piece flew 100 yards across the field and decapitated my buddy while he was talking. I had just seen and talked to him that same morning.

On top of that, my very best childhood friend was killed in Nam by friendly fire, and another childhood friend who played Little League ball on my team was also killed in Nam. I still visit the Wall now and then to remember them.

So sh!t happens, and a lot of it is caused by mistakes, so I don't apologize for not wanting any mentally ill folks in those situations with me or anybody else.

And if you don't believe a transgender is mentally ill, let me rephrase it. How about highly freaking confused? Anybody who looks between his legs, sees a dick, and thinks it should be a twat, is highly confused, at best. I don't want any part of somebody like that in the military with me.

I'm so confused with these "liberals" who think the mentally challenged (transgenders) are a great idea for the military...yet, they probably were cheering when those already in the military were kicked out because they didn't want to become pin cushions during Covid.

Where was the outrage then for these trained, brave, volunteers who would give their lives for their country but yet were ostracized and ousted because they refused to abide by an unlawful order of getting vaxxed.

People who think it's a great idea for transgenders in the military are just as perversed in their thinking.

I'm all for them being kicked out, there's no room for a girly man in a foxhole.
