According to what I've read on X today, there are 15,000 enlisted people who are trans.
I just can't figure out how having a trans person kills morale. I would think not having enough people to get the job done would be much worse than having a tranny in the fox hole next to me. As long as the person is trained and trustworthy I wouldn't care anything else about their sexual orientation/identity.
I think it comes down to a couple of factors. And to keep everyone on the same page, I'm speaking of true trans individuals not dudes that are sneaking on women's underwear to feel feminine.
1) There is some inherint mental illness involved with being trans. Society doesn't like to admit that anymore, but it is true. Mental illness is generally grounds for a medical discharge anyways, not sure why this one is treated differant.
2) As someone said above, even post-op transgenders are HRT for life. Type 1 diabetics aren't allowed to join the military because it's generally disqualifying to require any sort of daily medication that would affect you mentally or physically if you stop taking it.
I don't have an issue with transgender individuals for the most part. I don't like the loud pushy ones, but I don't like loud pushy straight people either. From the military stand point, it's just a matter of logic. I know the military is short on recruiting, but they aren't just looking for warm bodies like McDonald's. It costs a ton of time and money to train someone in the military.
I 100% agree with a rule that says if you are using HRT to modify your gender(got to be specific there, people take HRTs for other reasons) you are medically disqualified from serving. My albuterol for asthma kept me from enlisting, I don't see this any differently.
