This is about as absurd of an "expectation" as it gets unless you're talking about a 16-16 First Four matchup.

Yep. “absurd” is an appropriate way to describe 4evers recent posts…who still hasn’t explained where his 15 years came from. 03-phew

There’s not a true JMU fan alive who doesn’t desire that both the men and women’s teams make the NCAAT, and do so regularly. To start gritching, however, that Coach B hasn’t already made the NCAAT in his 3rd year at JMU is borderline nuts.

The SBC is (for now and the foreseeable future) a one bid league. That’s not to say the league is bad or is not competitive. The SBC has several excellent teams, and earning the league’s sole bid will be extraordinarily difficult in any year. Winning the SBC’s bid in back-to back years would be phenomenal, and even more difficult. Not knowing the league’s full history I can’t say this as a fact, but I doubt there have been very many back-to-back MBB tourney winners in the SBC.

Again, all JMU fans desire to support a program that makes regular NCAAT appearances. That is the goal after all. Yet, to “expect” that outcome in a one-bid league? And with a JMU program that’s only made the D1 NCAAT five times in over 50 years of competing?

Desire, hope, rooting and wishful thinking are one thing. “Expecting” is another. For a 3rd year JMU HC Byington has made the program competitive. I “expect” Byington’s teams to have a chance to win every SBC game. Let’s start with being grateful for that improvement, and hope the team prevails in the grueling SBC tournament.

Does that look like JUST disagreement to you, Mr. Moderator? Real impartial and unbiased, aren't you?

And, that's all I'm doing. So, what's the difference?

By the way, what's crazy about discussing how a basketball player, ANY basketball player, would be a solid fit for JMU's program? When did that become "crazy?" We do it all the time on this board. I'm sure I can go through the archives and quickly find a dozen instances of you participating in such lunacy.

I think I'm pretty impartial. Somebody disagreed with you, then you got defensive and condescending ("go get laid or something") because of a different opinion. I thought this was America where it was OK to disagree, but Purple has to have the last word!

Anyone expect players on our roster to transfer out? I'm curious what the people think.

I’m wondering if we see Blaine try to go to a smaller D1 or D2 to get more playing time. I think Roberson and Brown will see big minutes next year, so don’t expect them to go. Anyone else?

I'd like to see what Blaine does in practice. Was 10-21 overall / 5-7 from 3 in mop-up duty....but still... 5-7 is 5-7. He didn't look like a deer in headlights when he did get out there with maybe the exception of LIU where he had 5 turnovers. His strok looked good and his resume from Richmond was not bad. I was surprised Byington didn't take a flyer on him at one point to see if he could add some instant offense from outside on a few of those nights where Freidel and Morse were off. That role ended up going to Wooden.

Like I said, would love to see what goes on in practice. Must be other factors involved (defense and/or turnovers) that limited his minutes. Brown was the only Freshman coach seemed to trust with meaningful playing time.

Anyone know what our scholarship count is?

We’re losing Morse, Offerman, Sule and Tak. Plus any guy transferring out, which sounds like at least one. So 5 minimum losses?

We gain freshmen Carey and Archie. So I believe we’re at a 3 scholarship deficit but I could be missing someone. Wonder if By fills with another HS or if he goes for three transfers.

If Strickland leaves and Hamrick, Smith, Feden, and Hall are still 'walkons', then I see 3 scholarships available.

RE: MBB Recruiting
when do the end of year interviews take place? I'm guessing coaches take this week to decompress from Tournament and hold meetings with themselves to get a consensus...then end of year meetings next week with players. Just a guess.

I'm assuming it's more likely we won't hear of transfers out until after those meetings unless there is some obvious discontent already present with playing time or some other factor where the fit isn't right.

I think with the new portal - you'll see additional ships open up each year.

I just hope Edwards is not one of them. Under Brady, Edwards would be leaving. I've not seen any Red Flag departures under By. I think Edwards would have a lot of P5 options if he left.

I would not be surprised if multiple freshmen from this year's class leave. Brown is likely the best of the bunch, but I'm not sure he'd ever start for us.

RE: MBB Recruiting
I really like what I have seen out of a lot of the younger players. I think most will stay, and would love for us to get one or two transfers at F/C to add some depth there since we are losing 2 and only getting 1 in return and we will lose Wooden (maybe Amadi as well) after this next season if I am not mistaken.

Would love to see By's 10-11 man rotation of: Edwards, Freidel, Amadi, Wooden, Ihenacho, Brown, Carey, Archie, Roberson, Blaine, and a potential veteran transfer in the post...

On a side note 24/7 Sports says that Tyshawn Archie has not yet signed his NLI. Is this still the case. If so him choosing to go elsewhere will effect what Byington does in the transfer portal and will effect Blaine or another young G like Brown getting more playing time.

The culture around the team is healthy. The players like each other, and they’re enjoying success playing in a palace for a coach they respect.

Anything is possible because young athletes are subject to many distractions, however, I don’t see the potential for transfers (with the exception of Strickland to play with his brother on his Dad’s team).

As for your thought that Brown isn’t capable of starting…01-wingedeagle…I just don’t get that one. Please share more on how you’ve come to that conclusion.

There were only two highly recruited Freshman to start the 2022-23 season, so “multiple” freshmen transferring out would be quite the trick.
