RE: Hugh Freeze?
I always thought the market for Freeze was mostly a figment of his agent's imagination, but kudos to Liberty for securing that buy-out just in time.

RE: Hugh Freeze?
I think most Liberty fans are glad this happened. For 2 years, we've watched him flirt around with P5 jobs in November and
go 1-6. What happened at New Mexico State was a disgrace, with players finding out on Twitter an hour before the game and then having to ask Freeze themselves. Freeze said he was interested but hadn't gotten an offer (was basically done though). The bottom line is you want someone who wants to be there, not someone looking for an escape route.

Freeze and Liberty was a convenient marriage but I think it's the time for both to move on. Freeze did what he was asked - got us to a top 25 finish, beat four Power 5 teams, and won 3 straight bowl games. So I can't complain. We are obviously not going to be favorites or anywhere near there in CUSA football for near future, as recruiting will take a huge step back.

Liberty shouldn't just pay their next coach $5M/per simply because they were paying Freeze that, but if they find the right guy who wants to be there(even in the short term), they can easily grab the best coach in the conference.

RE: Hugh Freeze?
We all knew this day would come, this is not a surprise. What is a surprise is how it has been handled by Freeze. For the players, fans and recruits that were there on Senior Day, hearing it before the game on Twitter is pretty crappy. He‘s always talked about being transparent with his players. Pure BS! Reports say that negotiations have been going on for weeks. The results of the past 3 weeks show that. He quit on this team after the Arkansas game because he’s had Auburn running through his mind. That’s totally inexcusable to me. Hope the Auburn job is worth it to him after all the crap he’s created. I’m glad he’s gone after the way this went down. I don’t think there was any coming back after the way this has been handled by him. I have confidence that Ian will hire a very capable replacement.

Am told Auburn buyout was only 3 million. Liberty expected to name a new coach within a week.

Liberty's pay scale will not stop any coach from leaving. The attraction to win a championship will carry a lot of weight. Any G5 school or now most any school not in the SEC or BIG can and may lose their coach to most schools in those two conferences.

I would pay my head coach good but spend more money on asst coaches. Have the best staff in G5 not always the best head coach.

WKU has had about 10 head basketball coaches in the last 40 years and I believe 6 head football coaches in our 12 year FBS era. Many of those 14, if not most, left WKu to go to the Big 10, SEC ACC, etc. Success means your coach becomes a hot commodity and the truckloads of money they are offered can't be matched. This is nothing new for successful G5 programs or mid-major basketball programs. What you don't want is a coach that stays for too long. That's usually not a good sign of the health of your program.

I complimented and ripped Freeze on the LU board. That post is more pertinent in this thread so I here's the link rather than a rehash here.

I mean, an absolute shocker, right? The guy who calls hookers on the company phone lacks integrity.

Speaking from experience, Hugh is a rather polarizing figure, and you either love him or hate him. There's little in-between.

When he left AState 11 years ago several of our fans followed him to Oxford. There are people who still swear by him, and others who wish him nothing but complete and abject failure every time he steps on a field, partially because he was so popular with many.

Happens literally to every G5 program with a pulse that are good programs. WKU had their own alum basically quiting before October ended. Every G5 program a coach away from sucking...You must be naive as hell to think like above...
