When Chuck Norris is your coach your team will never brawl. The other team just beats itself up.

Football Scoop had reported Liberty could look at Chadwell from Coastal Carolina or even JMU's coach. I've heard some other names - all assistant coaches or coordinators at P5 level. But first this Freeze thing needs to be resolved, as Auburn seems to be pumping the brakes a bit.

I feel like Chadwell should wait for a p5 spot. Liberty might be able to put enough bag in front of him though. He'd be a terrific hire. I do not miss having teams coached by him on the schedule at all.

You know it's bad when your rep is too radioactive for Auburn:

The guy's 53 years old. He used his university-provided phone to purchase hookers, and at his next job (which, somehow, does not involve shoveling **** behind livestock), he inserts himself into a sexual-assault lawsuit against his employer by contacting the plaintiff to berate her.

That last, it's an immediate firing offense at any real-world employer. Judgement that poor beggars description.

Curt Cignetti would be an awful hire. Dude had all the resources in the world and whiffed three times in the playoffs with arguably the best teams in James Madison’s sad football history. Had more talent than the fluke 2016 team, yet he couldn’t win a big game. Ever. Liberty should steer clear of ole Curtis. Their money can buy better.

Names I've heard for Liberty are Chadwell from Coastal Carolina, JMU's coach, and then a bunch of coordinators and assistant coaches from Power 5 programs. I don't think Ian McCaw would look at a small school coach. And no, I don't think Art Briles, I think Liberty wants a clean slate.

The sexual assault lawsuit thing is bull. This alleged sexual assault victim was ripping Ian McCaw. Freeze, not wisely, DM'd her defending McCaw's character and saying he nor McCaw was even at Liberty when the alleged incident happened that this woman talked about. And that she did not know anything about McCaw, which is accurate. Did Freeze even know who she was? I'm not sure he did. Freeze routinely does tweet back at fans (not smart). But I'm not at all convinced this was some sort of cover for sexual assault, just Freeze being stupid.

He's 53 and an upper-management representative of his employer, not some frat boy on his second beer. When combined with his Mississippi firing, it shows serious ongoing flaws in judgement and character.

While Alabama's state universities are supposedly public institutions, they operate more like private fiefdoms. Auburn boosters already showed themselves willing to destroy Clesi Crochet's reputation just to tarnish Bryan Harsin's. So they might be okay with a morally corrupt idiot, as long as he wins foobaw games (though quitting on his team during the interview process calls even that into question).

But the Auburn Board, just like the Alabama System, is dominated by attorneys. The interference in ongoing litigation could be a red line even for them.

Enjoy that eight-year extension.

RE: Hugh Freeze?
Well, the fact that this is dragging out makes me think it might not happen now.

Auburn football: Hugh Freeze pushback, Brian Johnson trending up

Attention immediately shifted to current Liberty head coach Hugh Freeze, who practically openly admitted to reporters that he is interested in the Auburn football job following Liberty’s game on Saturday. Soon, there was pushback from people in the Auburn community, especially women, who were quite outspoken about their dislike of Freeze and sent emails to the university president and athletics director.

Freeze has never been named as an official candidate by anyone involved in the search, and it’s unclear whether or not the emails and pushback from the public will have an effect, but it is certainly something to consider.

According to Phillip Marshall of Auburn Undercover, a name that has been trending up in recent days is current Philadelphia Eagles quarterbacks coach Brian Johnson:

A new name has gotten some legs in recent days. Brian Johnson, the 35-year-old Philadelphia Eagles quarterbacks coach and a former Florida offensive coordinator, could be somewhere in the mix. He is considered a rising star.
