The woke crowd head's would explode.
Incorrect. The pathetic woke crowd only cares about about things in the US. They are fully fine with turning a blind eye to everyone else.
How about we keep the politics out of this?
This thread is about how mixing some sports, which at its core is an entertainment activity, with not for profit autocratic sponsors. Inevitably, it seems to create fault lines that will eventually lead to fractures. Non-profits have restrictions on what they can do that are fundamentally incompatible with free markets.
If the PGA were a for profit entity, would they refuse to allow appearance fees for their superstars? We've already seen what happens when colleges are prohibited from paying their stars (not to mention their entire labor force).
When there are big bucks involved, we may not like how the players (on both sides of the table) act, but at least if they are acting rationally we can understand it.
Don't be a fool politics entered this the minute Colin K dropped to a knee. Sports are forever tainted.
Quote:Among American conservatives, woke has come to be used primarily as an insult. In this pejorative sense, woke means "following an intolerant and moralising ideology." British journalist Steven Poole comments that the term is used to mock "overrighteous liberalism". Romano says that on the American right, "'woke' – like its cousin 'canceled' – bespeaks 'political correctness' gone awry"
Quote:“Woke” was originally a term used largely by Black people in activist circles, particularly after the rise of Black Lives Matter, to signify a consciousness around racial issues in America. The term is still sometimes used in that context.
But in culture and politics today, the most prominent uses of “woke” are as a pejorative — Republicans attacking Democrats, more centrist Democrats attacking more liberal ones and supporters of the British monarchy using the term to criticize people more sympathetic to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Those critical of so-called woke ideas and people often invoke the idea that they are being “canceled” or a victim of “cancel culture.”
So yes, bringing up "the woke crowd" in a negative way, as was done in this thread, is a political statement whether you intended it to be or not.
Edit: I don't want to get this into a huge derail, but this needed to be pointed out. Not everyone on this site is on the same end of the political spectrum and this can end up just being trolling to get a rise out of people (and get them banned as a result). We don't all joke about the same things.
Don’t assume you know where people stand. Lighten up Francis.
That was my point to you. And that the original statement was a troll. If you can't make your point without making a disparaging remark about a nebulous group of people then what's the actual point of your statement?
Also it doesn't matter where you stand or what your intent was. The most common use of the term is as a political statement and therefore you were, at best, unintentionally making a political statement. When this was brought up you simply denied and accused other people of being the real problem. (this is essentially the definition of trolling)
The ignorance of the woke crowd has made their own reputation let them wallow in the dung and mud they created for themselves. Hypocrisy at its finest.

But I bet you they will keep adding players until the PGA Tour makes some huge concessions (starting with appearance money). It's going to be a bidding war the likes we haven't seen since the NFL/USFL, or maybe the NBA/ABA decades ago (which was for much less money obviously).
Supposedly, DeChambeau, Reed, Matthew Wolff and then some more 40-year-old washed up guys were added to the list today (well Rickie Fowler might not be washed up quite yet). The PGA Tour can't keep afford to losing guys. I wonder if they might just scratch the whole FedEx Cup (which quite frankly is a useless event, that is buried too deep into the PGA season and has to go head to head against NFL/college football). Take all that FedEx money and pour it into the other events - and add appearance fees. And the PGA will win out. Just like the NFL and NBA did.
One element to the LIV Tour that would be fun to implement in a PGA event is the shotgun start. It makes scoreboard watching a heck of a lot harder, and takes away advantages that some tournaments have when players are on the right side of the draw with the better weather conditions.
Actually they shortened it so that it wraps up the last weekend in August, for that very reason.

And the Saudi blood money can actually make the NCAA look benevolent by comparison.
But there is a common element here. Both the PGA Tour and the NCAA (and its member schools) are not for profit institutions, and that limits what they can do financially for the athletes that play for them because they are independent contractors, not employees.
In both cases we are now in the midst of major realignment battles in which the rules haven't been fully thought out yet. It may take several years for the kinks to be worked out to keep the products compelling for fans. In the meantime, will greed put the future of those sports in jeopardy?
Greed? Just as in the hallowed halls of the NCAA, the money grabbing insiders will protect their own interests with mortal combat. So many ‘executives’ making bank that the claws come out when anyone questions it. Take Phil for example. He wants the PGA to properly pay its members and is immediately labled a traitor to his cohorts and country. Yet quitely the purses are raised and reforms are being discussed. Those players putting Phil in their little scoundrel box have a lot to thank him for. Meanwhile the PGA is just fine with China just as the manufacturers, like Callaway and TM are fine with making their clubs (and millions of $s) off an even worse offender of human rights than the Saudi’s.
More fake moral outrage to protect their (executives) do nothing high salaries. I personally hope the LIV Golf blows up the inside workings of the PGA. The majors will always be there as long as they compete with competitive checks for the players. The PGA trying to use the majors as leverage is no different than what Phil did. They just aren’t getting blasted for it.

And here I was thinking your first lay in college was the hot looking slutty Big Sister your frat bros set you up with to make sure you pledged? You don't run away from those but you may want to visit the infirmary to make sure you are still good to go.
Just give me the antibiotic. That metal q-tip felt like a midevil Inquisition torture instrument.
That's nothing. Wait until you have a kidney stone so large it won't pass and they put you out to place a stint up the wazoo for a lithotripter pounding. When it's over you place your feet in the stirrups and they run a wire up you, curl up the stint and pull it right out of your little buddy with no anesthetic. It's about 30 seconds of white knuckle screaming and then a week of dreading the call of nature. And the worst part is a woman in travail delivers a tax deduction and for pain you get a bill!

lmao...
turn on golf channel to listen to the whine o' chardun-day and what commercial is airing?!?!?!?
DJ, Fowler, and Wolff doing the Taylor Made thingy .... yeah, all three are now LIV players ... it's hardly a coincidence...
what's really amusing in all this is the ones leaving are right .... guaranteed money is long overdue .... the PGAtour needs to 'suck it up, buttercup' ... money talks, ya pompous democrat elitist dipshites ... or, suffer the residual like what happens to the dems in Nov...
the Tour is fk'd regarding the majors (yeah, not even the PGA is affiliated with the PGAtour)
Phil and corp. are right ... they simply had the wrong 'handlers'...

just a quick follow up ... a few more tour players have left for LIV and the crowds at the PDX event farrrrrrrrrrrrrrr outnumber those at the John Deere...

still not seeing buyer's remorse at this point...
The only thing giving LIV a bad rep right now is Sergio Garcia. But he’s always been a classless douche.
Aside from him, the PGA and other tours seem to have brought their own brand down a notch by punishing players instead of improving their brand to compete.

The PGA is screwed and they know it.

it reminds me how other sports vs. ownership has evolved .... one simply can look at the NCAA v. NIL and how that's finally playing out (as predicted back in '11 when I found/joined this silly arse board) ... yeahhhhhh, no bs...

Norman's not the most likeable feller either ... regardless, the PGAtour is currently takin' it up the economic poop chute ... deservedly so, IMO...
it won't take long for some alliance/merger/guaranteed monies to occur across the board ... there's too much $$$ at stake for the PGAtour to not succumb....

A bunch of the tour’s top players have gone to the LIV. Of course they weren’t going to get a tv deal before that. Now though, I’d bet that tv deal gets done soon. Especially as PGA events get less and less viewership. Money talks, it always has and always will.
