RE: 2021-22 Season
Scott Wiegand may have made the best all-time hire of a basketball coach.
The 4th foul on Juston was absolutely one of the worst calls I have ever seen. A guy on the floor covering his head.
Other than that the "knight" was perfect.
#freebellarmine getting a lot of social media play, wonder if BU gets a shoutout during announcement show, I expect so and also expect NCAA to award NIT bid to ease the pain.

RE: 2021-22 Season
when you think the NCAA can't get any worse, they deny the Knights an NIT bid. The NCAA tournament I understand, in the sense that it was the rule (albeit a dumb rule). Cannot imagine why they would deny them an NIT bid. It's not as though the NIT is a prestigious tournament, teams decline an invitation every year.
Really infuriating for the seniors to not get the full recognition they deserve. The NCAA is clearly not invested in the student athletes best interest.

RE: 2021-22 Season
Just to clear it up, the NCAA does indeed "own" the NIT tourneys (pre and post season) so it has never really been an option for Bellarmine. The only tournament that we can participate in without some sorta exemption is the CBI which is not owned by the NCAA.
I agree the rule does seem unfair without reason to be ineligible for four years but,,,,,we signed up for it.
The boys coming out today saying they "were led to believe" they could play in the NIT??? that should be easy to clean up....who led them to believe that? it was obviously not the NCAA. I dont think that video was a good look for us

RE: 2021-22 Season
Scotty has mentioned the NIT several times over the last two years so that is probably where the players heard it. So, I guess, why did Scotty think that?
The 4 year deal prohibits participation in NCAA "championship" tournaments. The NCAA is the only entity in the college basketball world that considers the NIT a NCAA "championship". Typical NCAA arrogance and ignorance.

That was easy to clear up. Thanks for the information because i was not aware that Scotty had said that. It is a bad rule but again it is/was a rule. We have really gotten alot of national press about it so that is good. I just dont think that scripted response from the boys was really necessary.
Hopefully I am under the understanding that the vote for change it to two years in April and it will pass and be retroactive thus making us eligible next season. Unfortunately for us it might be a little bit of a rebuilding year for us

My only problem in all of this is that the NCAA is the object of the Players' ire and it seems it would not have been difficult for someone in the BU athletic department to check with the NCAA on the eligibility to play in the NIT. Like everyone else I had heard Scotty infer they were eligible. Am I too naive in assuming that contacting the NCAA for clarity is something that could have been done at sometime in the last two years?

RE: 2021-22 Season
Anyone else find it kind of odd that BU supposedly turned down the CBI? I get being disappointed, but you'd think the players and coaches would want to at least keep playing.

Last I read, the proposed "Bellarmine Rule" didn't stand a good chance of passing; but that was several days ago, so maybe the ongoing chatter about the absurdity of the current wait period will help.

Yeah, it's bizarre that they did apparently not do that, even if someone in the program was "told" the NIT would be in play for the Knights during this silly transition period.

If true that they turned down the CBI invitation, I am super super disappointed in that decision. All along they "wanna play" but turn down the CBI? Just a very poor decision.

I don't think there is a $50,000 fee, but there is no expense reimbursement and it would cost that for expenses.

"To-may-to" / "To-mah-to".
Still seems odd that, given how the guys seem to enjoy playing, BU didn't spring to continue the season and maybe have a little more fun.

RE: 2021-22 Season
March 23 is officially a national day of mourning - Dylan has announced he is transferring. Seeing him leave to play professionally would have stung, seeing him play for another school will hurt.
Still wishing him all the best, what a great 4 year run to help the program get where it is.
Knights are going to need a BIG offseason.

He is probably looking for a school where he would have a good chance at playing in the NCAA tournamnet. If its not one of the better power 5 teams, I don't know why he would bother transferring. I hope he is All-American wherever he ends up. Good luck, Dylan!

RE: 2021-22 Season
Dylan had a great career and probably could have moved on after last year so he has given plenty to the program and is due a chance to play in the tourney. Supposedly, Purdue, Memphis, Loyola are among teams that have reached out. Would not be surprised to see Cronin added to the list
All I see us recruiting are guards.... we need bigs but until this tourney thing changes I doubt we get any transfers. St Peter's went the international route for bigs

Ugh. This new "open season" transfer rule sucks, but best of luck to an amazing player in Penn!

As a 5th year graduate student, Penn could immediately transfer even under the previous rule.
I have no actual information, but I would be shocked if Scotty does not get at least one significant transfer.

Sorry, I was thinking of the rule in general, not Penn -- I'm worried about others departing as well. But it works both ways, and, in that vein, I'm like you and cautiously optimistic (albeit based on nothing specific) that BU will snag one or more high-impact transfers; Scotty was certainly able to do that during the D-II years.

Pitino wants Dylan, wonder how that is going over with Scotty. I would say no chance he goes there.

Interesting. Maybe Pitino will agree to trade a game at Freedom Hall for Penn.
Hadn't heard Iona, but I saw a tweet which mentioned Vandy, Mississippi, Purdue, Georgia Tech, Memphis, Valpo, and Wichita State (among others) as expressing interest in Penn.
Anybody heard or seen anything about a portal player hearing from Bellarmine? I've not had a good chance to poke around yet.
