Neat. I'm guessing they'll try and group teams by their eventual 12-team alignment and just stick Texas and Oklahoma into separate divisions.

Presumably like this then:

East: Central Florida, Cincinnati, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Texas, West Virginia
West: Baylor, BYU, Houston, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas Tech

I’ll play

BYU
Texas Tech
TCU
Texas
Baylor
Houston
Iowa St.

Oklahoma
Oklahoma St.
Kansas
Kansas St.
Cincinnati
West Virginia
UCF

Keep the OU Texas matchup as the lone crossover.

They could be real jerks and put them in separate divisions and not let them play.

TV would have a cow and it would be incredibly petty but I guess they have the ability

Nah, they'll get a protected crossover.

Wonder if Ol' Bob has cooked up a contingency plan if OUT's get out of jail card is activated before the 2023 football season?

Invite Memphis and USF and keep it moving?

Or the Kansas schools may want to stay west. It could be

West: Texas Tech, TCU, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, BYU, Kansas, Kansas State

These splits are always super messy.

I think it will be something like this, the non-Texas schools are going to want annual exposure in Texas for recruiting purposes.

For pure spite! Of course Texas & Oklahoma could always play a non-conference game against each other, like UNC & Wake did this past season.

The only thing stopping them may be (1) decorum and (2) if OU-UT have a signed contract with the Texas State Fair.

While I don't think Memphis and USF are getting invites without further losses, if they were, then it would make sense to put both OU and UT in the East.

East: Central Florida, Cincinnati, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Texas, West Virginia
West: Baylor, BYU, Iowa State, Houston, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas Tech

And in that case OU and OSU get a protected crossover.

RE: Dennis Dodd: Big 12 planning to split into two seven-team divisions for 2023
Key take-aways:

1. They don’t plan on OU and TX leaving before 2025.
2. They plan on the four additions joining in 2023.
3. They plan on a 9-game football schedule.
4. They plan on an 18-game basketball schedule (surprising).

Now we know what Jim Phillips was referring to.

Except this was already expected, so no, unless he meant to be pedantic.

RE: Dennis Dodd: Big 12 planning to split into two seven-team divisions for 2023
Doesn’t seem super complicated to me.

Rivalry Week:

BYU-Iowa St.
Texas Tech-TCU
Baylor-Houston

Cincinnati-WVU
Kansas-Kansas St.
*Oklahoma St.-UCF

* I guarantee Oklahoma starts playing Mizzou Rivalry Week. Bedlam yearly: 05-ban

I think TCU and Kansas will want to be in the same division as Texas, so TCU is more likely to bowl qualify, and Kansas not go winless.

I'd think you'd want the three eastern teams together, and the three Midwest schools together, and the four Texas schools together.

So that would be: UCF, WVU, and Cincinnati; ISU, K-State, and KU.
Houston, Baylor, Texas Tech, TCU, OSU, and BYU.

Then for two seasons:

So that would be: UCF, WVU, and Cincinnati; ISU, K-State, and KU. Oklahoma
Houston, Baylor, Texas Tech, TCU, OSU, and BYU. Texas

The Big 12 championship can be a rematch of the AAC championship.

Since there will be three cross-overs, OU can play OSU and Texas.

Then in the future, replace OU with Memphis, and Texas with Boise State.
