One of the most enjoyable times on this board was in 2007, When Illannoy fans infested this board. The transition from laughing at us for thinking we had a shot at Rose, to being worried, then to realizing that they were screwed, and then the total meltdown, was spectacular.

I'm sure there are Kentucky lurkers here right now. I'm not sure why Cockburn would "announce" he's going back to Illinois. Thinking he goes to Kentucky. If that's true it makes sense that Cockburn wants to get his decision in ahead of Durens, just in case.

Yeah I remember. I frequented their board since I'm from there and have family members that went to school there. They were delusional. They went after me like rabid dogs. Hilarious.

Duren genuinely sounds like someone who wants to get even better... at least during interviews. He mentioned penny, Cody, and Brown by name. I'm thinking the Brown hire is going to help us here.
The hiring of Brown definitely helps. Now gotta get the $ right.
Boy I love that we can openly say stuff like this now. Quit acting like it's taboo. Quit having the fan base of a program that is obviously paying players talk about other programs cheating. It's all fair game and folks can go stuff that nonsense.
You still cannot pay a player to choose your school and if you subsequently agree to give them X amount for basically nothing ($1M to sign autographs for an hour), you’ll be under scrutiny. It’s not “all fair game”.
It took Miami boosters 5 minutes and some legal fees to figure out how to work around that. We are already past that stage of the game on how to make that work within the rules...

That's what Kentucky fans do. It's absolutely impossible that someone might consider going to a school that's not Kentucky if Kentucky wants them. Went over there and took a look at basketball site and in addition to Calipari not recruiting Cockburn there's another theory that Orlando Antigua, their assistant coach who used to coach at Illinois, had a "gentleman's agreement" that he would not recruit any Illinois transfers. So according to Kentucky fans now, Calipari either didn't want him or they didn't recruit him because they're so above the board honest gentlemen.
So get ready now for Calipari to put on the Duren full court press.... Above, behind, and under the table.

I thought the whole reason Duran was considered favored to come here was based on "if" UK got Cockburn? So doesn't that now translate into Duran goes to UK?

Well there is a new element in the mix that was not there previously....Larry Brown. Should and could be a difference maker.

The fact that Kentucky has Tschiebwe and Collins hurts them for both Kofi and Duren imo.

I think the reason we lead for Duren, if we do, is because of Penny, Larry Brown, and Cody Toppert.

Y'all, last year showed that Cal can't coach a horse to water even if he tried. He relies too heavily on luck. Talent alone will most often only get you so far. UK may have many titles and such—but when speaking in terms of the present, those are mere relics from the past. The fact is, at present, Memphis has the better coaching staff.

Might want to make at least one NCAA tourney before we make comparisons to anybody, let alone UK

And then there are those in Kentucky that appear to think he is leaning Miami. What’s the reasoning—anything in the wind that indicates any substance to it?

I have no idea wtf you are talking about. Is this a joke? In the last 15 years...
44 NCAA wins
1 National Championship
5 Final Four
5 Elite 8
2 Sweet 16
Cal averages an Elite 8 every year, and in 2020 they were ranked #8 when the season was cancelled. We have fans that have lost their marbles.
Proven that Cal can't coach. Hilarious.

Well, if he should choose Miami, it’s more about relationships, not about who can best prepare him for the NBA.

Really high-risk high-reward when we send all three of our active coaches to watch his games rather than spreading the eyeballs to evaluate other talent. We will see.

They have plenty of film on these guys...
The eyeballs that are more important are the recruits eyeballs seeing our coaches.
