Look at Indiana.
You conflate the state of the program with the recent W-L record. IU has been short of on-court success this century, but it is still flush with money and fan support that most programs can only dream of, commensurate with its status as one of the few elite "basketball first" schools It will find the right coach eventually.

The Doom & Gloom on this board is absolutely the best thing ever. There is this big light at the end of the tunnel, but nobody but a few can even see it. Woah is me!

Sometimes the big light at the end of the tunnel is from a locomotive that's about to run you over.

That right! We have John Wooden Brannen to steer the ship through these troubled waters.

RE: We had a good run
I don’t buy into the rebuilding year. You go an get guys in the portal an win now. I said this all year that the portal and free agency changes everything. Coaches can’t build teams anymore with four year players so stop trying that method. The key is to get transfers with multiple years on them so they are locked in with you. The sooner this staff figures this out the better chance they have to survive. Honestly their stance on not recruiting high school kids this past year and the mass exodus makes me believe they did figure it out.
You just can’t recruit players who can leave anytime and play next year for someone else. It’s a waste of time.

So Jimmy Chitwood is going to walk in and say that he'll only play for the coach, suddenly Brannen is beloved by the players and we win the championship next year playing four guys all season. Riiiiiight.
Dude, it's going to take a minor miracle just to field a team that can win a game next year... and you're seeing light at the end of the tunnel???
Please enlighten us as to what that light is... or start sharing some of your mushrooms with the rest of us.

I am not even close to being a Brannen guy but I would be shocked if UC was worse next year. I expect around 20 wins and a bubble team. The guys that are leaving this team were not good. There are so many better parts in portal that even an average recruiting job will get you an NIT team. This year had a combination of some of worst seniors mixed in with over matched freshmen plus covid.

Hilarious. I guess there will be a draft for portal talent and we get the very last picks. It's going to be a choice between Barkley and the little girl, and Barkley is gone.

If Terry Nelson's estimate was correct--2,000 in the portal, there will be high major programs (including UC) with almost completely new rosters next year and some of those teams will find a way to thrive in this brave new world and advance in March. Many players among the 2,000 will be "ready now" performers: plug and play, no redshirt year, no working into the lineup six minutes a game as freshmen.
CJB isn't going anywhere in the next 12 months and this week's hysteria by a handful of folks on message boards isn't forcing UC's hand on a $4.5 million buyout. Brannen's fate does rest in this rebuild; we'll know a lot more in March 2022.
Sadly, some won't allow themselves to enjoy the team's success next year if he pulls it off since it will undermine their preconceived belief that the past four days amounted to a disaster of epic proportions.

No argument there.
However, we've signed ...who?... to date and word has to have gotten out that Brannen's some sort of d!ck to play for.
I'm waiting to see who we sign, which to my knowledge is NOBODY.

RE: We had a good run
To go with the transfers we will sign some under the radar HS guys who would have been back end of the bench guys for a couple years for other programs. Immediate playing time is an intoxicating brew for guys on the periphery of high major basketball. If they succeed here, they can trade up to a more expensive model.

Going to see a lot activity in the next few weeks. I hope this staff avoids some of the issues that screwed things up this year. Not a bad year to have a ton of openings. Buyers market and lots of good parts available on demand.
