So Jimmy Chitwood is going to walk in and say that he'll only play for the coach, suddenly Brannen is beloved by the players and we win the championship next year playing four guys all season. Riiiiiight.

Dude, it's going to take a minor miracle just to field a team that can win a game next year... and you're seeing light at the end of the tunnel???

Please enlighten us as to what that light is... or start sharing some of your mushrooms with the rest of us.

I am not even close to being a Brannen guy but I would be shocked if UC was worse next year. I expect around 20 wins and a bubble team. The guys that are leaving this team were not good. There are so many better parts in portal that even an average recruiting job will get you an NIT team. This year had a combination of some of worst seniors mixed in with over matched freshmen plus covid.

If Terry Nelson's estimate was correct--2,000 in the portal, there will be high major programs (including UC) with almost completely new rosters next year and some of those teams will find a way to thrive in this brave new world and advance in March. Many players among the 2,000 will be "ready now" performers: plug and play, no redshirt year, no working into the lineup six minutes a game as freshmen.

CJB isn't going anywhere in the next 12 months and this week's hysteria by a handful of folks on message boards isn't forcing UC's hand on a $4.5 million buyout. Brannen's fate does rest in this rebuild; we'll know a lot more in March 2022.

Sadly, some won't allow themselves to enjoy the team's success next year if he pulls it off since it will undermine their preconceived belief that the past four days amounted to a disaster of epic proportions.

Cincinnati Sports Fandom is a confusing paradox, isn't it 03-lmfao

lol. A few still seem to have preconceived beliefs right now they can’t bear to see undermined. I won’t yuck their yum.

It is a perfect spot for Pitino to shine, but I know that's not an option for the admin, and there's a point where he's just going to be too old regardless, but the point remains that the spot is best filled with a "floor general" type, not an analytics guy.

If UC can't compete for attention with the Reds and Bengals perennial crap-shows, then we're doomed. Just imagine what it would be like to share a city with pro teams that actually give a damn.

I definitely agree with you. It's been this way for years. It's comical to watch THE BANTER while watching a UC BB or football game and so many crying about the coaching or the season , even when we everntually win the game.

Not any more or less than other fan bases IMO. Have you ever been to a fans' board of Ohio State, Notre Dame, Michigan State or Texas to name a few? I think part of it is the fan board format allows folks to vent behind their keyboards with the security/privacy of the internet. That creates a setting where a lot of folks can make a comment that a lot of other folks can read and instantly react to. I'll wager a group of us having some wings and beers together could talk UC sports shop and come away with a much different experience. The other part of it is there is some historical significance/accuracy of UC athletics getting to the big race but not able to cross the finish line. For sanity's sake I won't repeat those instances. As fans we always want to strive for excellence and pride in our university. You hope to keep setting a high bar [within reason]. That said, I do agree that you have to be careful not to miss or not to appreciate the level of success that we've had for a program not in a power conference. I would say that is particularly remarkable on the football side of things that goes back to Coach Minter but really reached incredible heights after Dantonio to Kelly and back again to Big Fick. But hey, I've always fashioned myself as a glass half full guy so maybe it's easier for me to have this outlook than for others.

I will say that many of us have watched our basketball program rise from the ashes to the national stage under Bob Huggins. To have our hoops brand carry-us during those lean football years was incredible. Unfortunately it seems for a variety of reasons, it has now reversed or flipped to where football is carrying the load - big time. I do understand the concerns and questions, and share some of those, that posters have expressed on the hoops' current state of affairs. It hasn't helped that information has been limited, mixed, and contradictory. IMO, that has added to some of the angst and I would probably be a lot more worried if UC fans didn't care enough about the hoops program to express those concerns and frustrations. Again, this board offers an outlet for the fans so yes some of it will come out as negative or "doom and gloom." One thing we can all agree on is we are passionate UC fans because why in the fug else would we spend so much of our time on this board? AM I RIGHT?!

RE: We had a good run
I disagree with the notion that we should fold the basketball program. Now is the time for rapid expansion. We should add Donovan Mitchell, Zach LaVine and Kemba Walker. Use the midlevel exception on Raef Lafrentz.

Make Larry "Big" Bird an offer he cant refuse.

Ty Lue can serve as an assistant for offense. Thibodeau can run the defense

Clarence Weatherspoon only played 7 years at Southern Miss. He’s still got eligibility. Make him a package deal with Tom Kleinschmidt.

People think UC is in trouble. The 2 semi-pro franchises in town are steaming piles of *&#^ Both seems to be perpetually in a 30 year rebuild mode. UC will be fine.

Fact is, Cincinnati basketball might not be sustainable.

Getting ready for another Croninesque rebuild without the backdrop of the Big East.

I think I got a right to be a little disgruntled here.

They just spent 87 million on an arena renovation. How much money would they need to spend to show commitment to the program?

next year's bb team will still be in a lot better shape than what Mick Cronin inherited from Andy Kennedy. Take a deep breath.
