RE: Total Amount of People That Work in Oil and Gas
Headline on CNN now says Trump is trying to distract us with oil to move away from Covid. Mine as well chance their name to Covid News Network now. How can people put up with this madness?

Califa has tried on a pretty enormous scale and they can’t keep the lights on when it’s 104 deg outside. Can’t even run a fan, much less the A/C.
So, what did people do? Fired up their gas powered generators. Lol
Risking further fires and pumping all that glorious exhaust into the air.
Why you ask? Because all the windmills and mirrors in the world couldn’t keep up with the US power demands,
So, what are the Chinese or Germans going to trot out to put us in our place?
This should be good

Absolutely NOBODY is saying we can’t explore alternatives or regulate pollution. The problem is when the Democratic leadership prop up the same failed alternatives as a means to fully eliminate the use of oil.
Explore alternatives all you want. However, until one is proven to be more cost effective AND just as useful in our everyday lives... you’re not getting any traction.

Race is on to what? Is it a sprint or a marathon? Sackrace or three-legged?

How could they? They can’t keep the lights on as it is.
I get what you’re saying, being the lunatic left coast, but even some of them have got to get that much.
Plus, when gas powered generators are outlawed, only outlaws will have gas powered generators.

We’re seeing significant advancements in electric cars, natural gas, wind and solar. Renewables have been growing at double digit clips now for the past decade... of course the race is on to replace fossil fuels... but the question no one knows is what will ultimately replace the combustion engine. 10-15 years ago would anyone think Tesla would be the most valuable car company in the world?

At some point the marketplace will transition the move away from fossil fuels because of innovations that make other energy sources competitive...but...Anyone that thinks this is going to happen in their lifetime is a damn idiot. The Saudis can sell oil dirt cheap and can still make a fortune doing it. They have enough supply to last until we are all dead and gone that could supply this planets needs and keep in mind that we buy very little from them. We have plenty of supply of our own.
Im all for solar, wind or any other alternative energy source as a supplement where the sun shines and the wind blows..but..don't try and sell me a line of BS that ANY of the current alt sources are viable to supply this country with the energy it demands. This is just fcking idiotic.
The GREEN deal is a line of BS dreamed up by idealistic people with zero common sense. Its never going to happen...even if the Democrats get in power. This is nothing but pie in the sky crap to lure dummies in to voting for them because they think this might happen. It won't...mark it down. It has zero chance of ever being implemented. The green deal is DOA no matter who is in power.

No..The race is NOT on to replace fossil fuels. It is on to supplement them. They can't be replaced now...period. Someone might solve fusion or some other giant leap..but..until that? We are going to burn whats under the ground to power what is above it predominately.

Good grief.
Sooooo, where does that magic elixir come from that powers those over priced pieces of schit known as Tulsi’s?
How about the metals that go into the subsidized batteries? How many big ass fans and mirrors will we need to power our homes, businesses, cars, trucks, tanks, aircraft carriers?
Have you really thought any of Tis through?
Geeeez. Seems not.

RE: Total Amount of People That Work in Oil and Gas
The cost of rare earth materials have limited our ability to produce batteries cost effectively as we were forced to buy the materials from China. Then this happened and it went almost unnoticed.
“A whole slate of new bad behaviors by China’s repressive regime have been laid bare by the COVID-19 crisis. There were already plenty of complaints before the pandemic began, but the coronavirus seems to be supercharging the pressure on U.S. companies to reduce their Chinese sourcing. One of the biggest recent challenges in that regard has been China’s dominance in mining and processing critical rare earth minerals. These are vital building blocks for everything from smart phones, EV batteries and medical imaging machines to advanced defense weaponry, so our reliance on a less-than-friendly nation for our supply presents a huge political and economic risk. But right now China controls 90% of global rare earth production.
It’s amazing good fortune, then, that out in the barren scrub of Far West Texas 85 miles east of El Paso, an unassuming 1,250-tall mountain called Round Top holds the promise of making America largely self-sufficient in these critical minerals. The mountain contains five out of six light rare earths (such as neodymium), 10 out of 11 heavy rare earths (dysprosium, for example), and all five permanent magnet materials. What’s more, Round Top has large deposits of lithium, critical for batteries in EVs and power storage.”
https://www.forbes.com/sites/jimvinoski/...c54f7d28b9
The only real question now is who would be best to lead the effort to extract these materials. Republicans who still believe mining is important or Democrats. Some Democrats who might rather buy them from China instead of watching the US continue to be energy independent.
