You people are welcome

A rented tiger is like hiring an escort who doesn't know his mascot from a vole in the ground.

Tom III knew where his loyalties lay...he was a Memphis Tiger thru and thru.

It's clear this move with the Zoo was long in the works.

I don't think it was in the works at all until the uproar from fans.

The announcement said there was an agreement in principle. That's not the announcement of something long in the works. That's the result of a few phone calls between the key players.

RE: Tom III passes away
This is TOTALLY SEPARATE from not doing a TOM IV through the HH. I understand. I don't like it, but then again, I'm not in a position to step up and be the next Scott Forman. And let's be honest... That is the heart of the issue.

So... AS I SAID.... TOTALLY SEPARATE.... This is going to be a total snooze. We are going to score a TD, and they are going to cut live to a Tiger @ the zoo whom couldn't care less, may be asleep, may even be currently taking a dump. If you can't do something right, just don't do it. You will look like a fool.

I can just hear the next Chuck Roberts trying to get everybody to notice TOM IV on the screen after a TD in some stupid sing-song voice "Hey, everybody! Look at TOM!!! He's on the screen, but here in spirit!"Shut up Chuck, that cat doesn't give a crap about this game. Doesn't even know it's going on.

I will admit, my emotions are talking right now, and they could very well surprise me with the quality of the connection-to-game with this, but I doubt it.

I’m glad the Tom tradition continues. Yes I would like it to be as before, but we have no one to do the job. So I’ll take what we can get.

It could be that way, but it doesn't have to be.

If they pipe the fight song into his environment and through him a treat each time, he'll learn to get worked up when he hears it. This can be done well. That doesn't mean it will be, but it can be.

Tom III on the other hand, clearly understood the intricacies between defensive and offensive pass interference. You could almost see him sneering in disgust when the refs got it wrong through the years.

They threw a penalty flag on Tom III once. I don't think Tom and Tom II were ever penalized.

We gotta get Pouncer more involved in the game.

They could also produce several pre-recorded clips to use after big plays and touchdowns. The live shots could be reserved for pre-game, half-time, and other dead periods where it doesn’t matter if he is active or just lounging around the zoo.

It certainly won’t be the same as having him at games but it is better than no TOM IV. Part of me wonders if this was the plan all along and they only announced there would be no TOM IV so this setup would be seen as more of a win for the fans rather than the letdown it would be perceived as if it were announced after TOM III passed.

I think would be quite nice to have a stuffed mascot of the opposing team thrown to TOM and they film him ripping it up. Play it during pre-game. Maybe at TD's as well.

Of course no one said it because it has nothing to do with anything. The days of having a live tiger mascot at a handful of home games is over. If you were close enough, maybe you saw him. They’re trying to create a new tradition where TOM IV (or whatever they decide) can be seen and enjoyed by untold thousands year round. Lots of possibilities.
