They will have to make a call before the election. My bet is conference games only.

So you'll only care if basketball season is canceled. What is supposed to get so much better in a couple months, also in the middle of flu season, where basketball season should be fine. Remember, according to the Selig and Broderick article our players were fine with practice but staying in hotels and the testing requirements from other programs were a problem. How is that any different for basketball than football.

Huge difference. Basketball travels with like 20 people. Football is traveling with well over 100.
There may be less people but they will still be staying in hotels, flying and being around other programs where there is no control over their testing procedures so the reasons to cancel are all still there.

And frankly, the players may be consulted as well. A bubble might be possible for basketball, it's not for football. If there is a season, Im not sure how involved Jones will be.

Which is ridiculous because in our silly conference, the non conference games are closer. Most don’t require flights and many don’t even absolutely need a hotel room.

They can bubble on our campus but they won't be a bubble when they go to other schools. They will have to stay in hotels for all of our conference games and how do we know if the other school obeyed their bubble. Also that means we won't be allowing our "student" athletes to attend class in person like all of our other students.

And if it is a valid reason to cancel football then it is just as valid to cancel basketball, even if there are only 20 people.

Much cheaper to charter a smaller plane for a basketball team. Travel is different in these times and going forward. The cost of charter flights has risen almost 100% while demand has gone up 500%. I don't think anyone is excited to jump on commercial flights.

So ignore the flights because football chartered too right. They will still be in hotels and around other teams where they can't control how covid restrictions are enforced. Here is my point. I see a lot of people trying to find reasons why basketball can be played but football couldn't. The number of people should not matter. They both have all the same risks once they leave campus.
To your point about cost. That was never given as a reason for canceling. It was only the player safety concerns.

Does anyone know when or if MBB practice will be starting? No word on here that I have seen, if so I am sorry I missed it. It sure has been quiet about basketball.

Well, UMass is now back in and playing football. If we don’t reverse course now we officially look like fools. Everyone except ODU and (maybe) UConn will be playing. On the plus side, I have to think this bodes well for ODU actually coming up with a plan to play. Even as an independent. Sounds like UMass will be looking for games.

UConn isn’t playing because they don’t really want football and certainly can’t afford it. Right or wrong, some are going to look at ODU and wonder if the same is true for us.

UConn isn’t playing because they had a state mandate if you traveled into the state, you had to quarantine for 14 days. So they couldn’t host anyone and they couldn’t leave.
