I think honesty is the best policy. He was responding to what the ULL athletic put out there a few days ago. Was it petty? I don't think so. He was saying what the whole of CUSA was saying internally. All the smoke appears to be from the Sunbelt side.

For me, it never was a rivalry. I don't feel hate or true hatred toward ULM. I feel nothing. Even when I first stepped foot onto the Tech campus in 2000, the main rivalry in football that everyone wanted to talk about was West Monroe vs Ruston, not Tech v ULM.

Does Tech feel the same way about Lafayette ??

I don't respect UL-Lafayette, and I want nothing to do with them. They have a history of cheating and NCAA violations. They have a long history of pulling shenanigans with their name (i.e. trying to brand themselves as Louisiana even though State law prohibits it). UL-L tries to accomplish things in the wrong way and with shortcuts.

I’ll give my two cents that don’t mean much, but they are basically 30 minutes apart. Tech was founded in 1894 and is the second oldest FBS public school in Louisiana compared to ULM which was found in 1931 as a two year university and Tech still looks at them as a Juco.

I certainly can understand that, SMU and TCU are 30 miles apart too and we love to hate each other. We do have a history of 99 games, most of which were in the same conference. And both schools were founded about the same time. I can understand La Tech, being an older school, and with a great history, considering ULM to be an upstart FCS quality school.

Gotta agree here. I see nothing wrong with what the AD said.

There is a concerted effort to verbalize the things I mentioned in my post since the WAC days. Dooley's elite comment comes to mind ( don't think he was AD when he made the comment, but he was HC/AD at one point). Also Holtz comment about ULL inviting all of our recruits to their game against us. I like it when our admins show a little swagger. It's clearly rubbed off on many of our fans. I'm good with it.

Posting here since the thread where this response would have been more appropriate has been locked.

Tech's AD answered the question raised by the ULL AD today. His response was that C-USA has not had and will not have any discussions regarding any merger or reshuffling of teams between C-USA and the SBC.
Regional scheduling alliances will be discussed.

I figured given all the threads and posts about the subject, folks would honestly want to hear it from the Horse's mouth. He stated that none of the CUSA teams had discussed a merger, meaning that this isn't just a TECH vs ULL thing. It's a CUSA vs Sunbelt thing.

I personally think he should have some swagger. This is a program coming off a shutout of The U in their bowl game. That should give you some swagger to talk like that, plus they've had success over several years with Holtz. I see nothing wrong with the comment.

We've tried to be nice and friendly about this. The question was asked and answered a looooong time ago in the thread. Not just Louisiana Tech, but CUSA has no interest in merging with the Sunbelt. It hasn't even been discussed. Playing some more regional games is ok, but not a knee-jerk overreaction merger!

Some of you have just kept pushing your agenda ad naseum anyway. Its time to DROP IT and "move up a level" as you put it. You have the answer for the 957th time.

Let's revisit the timeline.

The talk started from the ODU and Marshall fans on this board and now has morphed into the SBC wishes they could merge with CUSA.

The SBC is a tighter regional conference that performs better than CUSA in CFB revenue. Staying in the SBC and having a scheduling alliance with eastern CUSA teams is a win/win situation from a revenue/cost equation.

I don't think App fans are super sad if a merger doesn't happen. We were one crappy night on Halloween away from going to the cotton bowl in the sunbelt. We're both one bid basketball conferences.

yeah being in a conference with UNCC would be nice, but honestly they need App more than App needs them.

If La Tech wants to continue passing up playing ULLLLLLLL to go play in Norfolk and Huntington, more power to them.

Sunbelt isn't perfect, but we make more CFP $$ and look to be a better football conference for the foreseeable future, and neither conference is getting an NCAA at large.

There it is people. Like I said there has been zero conversation from CUSA about a merging with the Sunbelt.

Like Tommy said of course ULL wants to move up to CUSA from the Sunbelt. You can’t hate on ULL for at least trying to improve their situation.

CUSA has zero interest in any Sunbelt teams. We might at some point poach a few of their best teams when they should they can consistently play at higher level such as CUSA.

The Sunbelt trolls on twitter are exploding right now.

Why merge with a conference that has zero P5 bowl tie-ins, when CUSA has 3 P5 bowl tie-ins.

In 2015 Tech had the same amount NFL Draft Picks as the whole 12 team Sunbelt Conference.

Tech also dominated their 8-0 Sunbelt Champ in a bowl game that was never even close.

Not Mention Two thumpings of their NO Bowl Champ ULL, one in Lafayette where Coach Hud invited Tech recruits to watch. The Next year Hud gets fired after getting decimated by Tech again.
