Umm, we should take bets on if this game will actually be played in DeKalb or not?

I bet no.

Yeah it's not being played in DeKalb and that middle game probably wont be played until 2034 anyway.

Agree that a then No. 15-rated Maryland coming to DeKalb definitely prevails over Missouri as biggest name.

Yeah, that’s worth a lot. Because BYU at SeatGeek was suggested and debated here before it was announced.

Show me one single time that the BYU game being moved was mentioned prior to the 2 people who guessed it would be moved to Soldier Field/Guarenteed Rate AFTER there was the post from STF that he was about to make a big announcement, which btw was 3 hours prior to the actual announcement itself. Not 9 years.

It's 9 years away. Mizzou could be the worst team in FBS, or be ranked in the top 5, so kind of a pointless debate to get into about if they are included as best team coming to Dekalb. Hopefully they are pretty successful by that point and therefore it's a big deal.

Impact Field. Right near the Tollway and airport. Easily accessible to all in the Chicagoland area. Only sits 6,300 so we are guaranteed to fill the seats. Mizzou will save money on hotels, as they can fly in and out pretty quick.

Bonus. This is the home of the Chicago Dogs. So I am sure warm hotdogs will be in abundance.

I am eating Red Hot Chicago hot dogs for dinner right now! I may have a couple left over that I’d be happy to sell to the Convo concessions. The big difference is that my dogs are in stock and they’re hot.

Awesome match up either way, just hope more of these end up in Huskie Stadium.

Maybe if stadium improvements are announced prior? 04-cheers

You just made my entire point. You’re chastising members for asking the game not be moved because it “hasn’t even been suggested” but there was never any inkling of BYU-to-SeatGeek until it was announced.

I apologize if anyone felt chastised. It just gets a little frustrating how much complaining there is vs how much positive/support there is. I get not everyone is happy with everything that happens, but we can either whine about it (which changes nothing) or get on board with it. I'll be traveling an average round trip distance of 2,400 miles for each of the 7 games I'll be attending in 2020. That's not a complaint, that is my choice to attend those games despite the difficulties. If others choose not to attend a game because it's not at HS or because it's a weeknight and they find that too difficult, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Again that is a choice that is being made. Just wish that the same energy that gets put into the complaining about the negatives was applied to the things that are positive and to supporting the coaching staff and players, who have no say in what the athletic dept does or doesn't do. That's all.

That's some long spaghetti. You said 7 games ... which is the away game (just curious)? Agree ... at times this board seems like B-M-C Central. Not really unusual for any college fan board (criticism is the #1 sport in the world).

But on this one, a lot of us have lived through some real screwups that have set the program back a bunch. There's an "oh no, here we go again" mentality ... one step forward, two steps back. Some of us, including me, may not be around to see Mizzou play at Northern, so we tend to live in the shorter term ... a kind of a -take-what-we-can-get attitude. So whether it's a hotdog shortage or moving the "big game" to SeatGeek, expect it.

That does NOT mean we're drive-by fans or not supporting the Huskies when push comes to shove. And a salute to your dedication. We DO need more energetic fans around here.

My dad played at NIU in the late 60's/early 70's and was a grad assistant as well. His exact quote when I brought up the Mizzou @ Dekalb was "I don't care I'll be dead."

I do know that a many of the fans who are upset are likely very serious fans, otherwise it wouldn't matter enough to be upset over. And you are right there will always be complaining, I get that. It's just when it is to the level of beating a horse that's been dead so long it is now only bones...That makes coming to the board unattractive, and living 40 minutes from Austin this is the only place I have to go and talk NIU. Down here discussing anything other than Texas or Texas A&M will get you removed from the room.

I'll be at the games against Maryland, Iowa, Kent State, CMU, BYU, Buffalo & Toledo. If they make it to Detriot then I'll make that trip as well. Might possibly make the Ball State game as well, but haven't been able to clear that date with work as of yet.

8 YRS. And we're getting excited.

Maybe DeKalb will have more than 2 decent hotels in the whole town.

And hopefully I'm still alive and there isn't a new virus out there. Assuming I survive corona.

RE: NIU 2:1 with Mizzou
Don't be discouraged. I feel your pain. Was in SoCal for five years in the late 70s, and talk about nothing NIU for a thousand miles. There are some good things going on, albeit not impressive to most ... Touchdown Village at Huskie Stadium, Victor E. Pub at the Convo, THammock's enthusiasm and rebuild of fb, MBB going to the MACT with a bye, and some other teams doing fairly well. Big problem, imo, is the secrecy of the a.dept.; seems to be in mistake-avoidance mode. If STF just sat down with the fans (not just the big $$ people) and talked about the situation more, he might find more fan support than he thinks is out there. But the a.dept. is run by bean-counters and we-know-what's-best staff. He could, for e.g., find out who some die-hard fans in Chicago are and ask their help pushing the BYU game to those 160,000 alumni he says he's targeting. He could ask for promotional ideas that are low-cost and fan-friendly. He could do a THammock and get around campus more. Listening is a lost art. Imo, reviving Huskie athletics is going to come from the bottom up, not top down. Oh, well. Enough rambling from an old guy.

Anyway, welcome to the board. Stick with it.

This game will be played in the dome in St. Louis. Book it. Does anyone honestly believe an SEC team will play here with Frazier running the show? We just moved an independent BYU to a soccer stadium in the south burbs.

Can anyone tell us how on earth is that cesspool closed down travel lodge still standing? Why are they letting a vacant dump motel sit for years? Also did they knock down Illini tire yet? Haven’t been to Dekalb since October.

JoeNovak: Unfortunately investors with money to burn are few and far from DeKalb. Yes, the Travel Lodge and Illini Tire are still standing. The new hotel being built on Annie Glidden adjacent to the Hampton Inn probably cost less buying the empty spot and building from scratch than paying to knock down the old Travel Lodge and construct something in that spot, although that empty area also includes what was once a car wash that was torn down. As for Illini Tire, someone is storing a truck and there appears to be random equipment and boxes in view, so who knows what will ever become of that location.

I live in Sycamore, but work in DeKalb. DeKalb has been trying to invest in downtown, which is starting to take shape. The new Tavern on Lincoln and Jamrah buildings are nice. The city is not doing much with the area west of Glidden. I wish they would, but the TIFF money is being spent in the down town revitalization.

Knocking down that hotel and that Lincoln tower and putting up some nice restaurants/bars would revamp that area of town. The old Hillcrest area has really gone to **** since Star Busters, Huskie Pizza and some of those other places closed.

If they had any brain they should be investing in student life on campus. Removing all these restaurants/bars makes it even more of a suitcase school. The travel lodge is such an eyesore. Take a hit and knock it down. You wonder who the heck owns it now and is paying tax on it. Certain parts of Dekalb look like the slums. Why would any kid drive in and say wow that looks great. Illini tire and travel lodge are in prime locations. Illini tire in particular is the first thing you see when you drive into campus. This is an incredible opportunity to make something prideful to the university out of that space.

Side note: are they still trying to kick all Greek life off campus? That could be the nail in the coffin to a declining enrollment. Heck most of the kids that stay on campus over the weekend are in a frat or sorority.
