so I kind of think the worst thing that happened to the Cardinals in some ways was getting up 10-0 in the 1st vs Atlanta. in the last 35 innings since then, they've scored 5 runs.

yeah, i think that made them a bit overconfident going into the NLCS. But Nats are peaking at right time. Amazing as they were once tied at about 30-something losses with the Marlins during the middle of the season.
Just hope they beat the Yankees.

yeah 19-31....
Since then- Nats are 81-40. That's not bad.
Strasburg doing his best Madbum impersonation this playoffs.... Killed the Cards tonight with 7 innings and 12 k's and 0 er. 2nd career time he's done that. Only other human that can ever say that- some chap named Bob Gibson. That's not bad company at all whatsoever.

I'm a Cardinal fan. Stick a fork in us, we're done. We must have sold our soul to the devil for the NLDS win. Looks like the Expos will finally get their pennant.

the play that I still can't believe and for Cards fans wow- was the one where the pitch was low and outside and Molina frankly half assed it and allowed it to go to the wall. allowed 2 runners to advance, and then Kendrick drove 'em in(because of course he did).

He has 4 more years left on his deal, but can opt out after the postseason. Have to imagine he'll take that opportunity. Which would mean he and Cole would be on the market, as well as Bumgarner, Keuchel, Ryu and Hamels. Great year to need a SP.
I know this belongs in the Hot Stove thread, but it was a valid reply. Feel free to ignore it.

he'll definitely opt out. Hopefully he and the Nats will copy what the Dodgers did with Kershaw last year... I think there's a pretty good chance of that.

Yeah I'd say that's likely. A part of me wants to see the Angels break the bank and just go HAM and give Trout the help he deserves

You almost wonder if the situation with Skaggs may hurt the Angels getting any free agents this winter....

Why? The circumstances are pretty different. Kershaw was a clearly diminished player - his health and stats had been in decline and while he still had the potential for very good games he was/is at risk for further injury and significant performance lapses. I know Kershaw wanted to stay a Dodger but I assume one of the reasons the Dodgers and Kershaw were able to reach an agreement was because the market for his services wasn't terribly hot.
I expect Strasburg, after a season that was either his best or second best, will opt out into a FA feeding frenzy. I'm not saying he won't resign with the Nats - he obviously loves pitching there - but it's gonna be a battle.

The thing that really concerns me is if the Nats win tonight, they have a week between games. So easy to lose sharpness....
8 sweeps in best of 7 LCS. Only the '95 Braves won the World series. And only the '14 Royals were close at all, but of course they got madbummed.

Yeah, do you root for the rest of the ALCS to go quickly, or do you root for the Astros and Yankees to beat the crap out of each other and burn out all their pitchers? Heh - I guess you could root for it to go quickly AND have them burn out all their pitchers.

problem is with the stagger the earliest it could possibly end is Thursday, and rain is likely tomorrow- so Friday. So I think I'm rooting for it to go 7. With 7 being a 15 inning marathon.
