This is why liberal arts education has intrinsic values. Is the intro to sociology class not a prereq for some schools? Seriously, I'm honestly not trying to be a jerk, but I can scan and paste my old sociology textbook here free of charge. You know...written by professors with actual PhD with thousands of hours of research specifically on the topic of white privilege and race inequalities, so you know it's explained better than anything I can say.

Quite frankly, I think the world would be a better place if possession of a degree in sociology were a capital offense.

That just proves how ignorant you are. Why don't you actually do some research and look up stats insteading watching CNN?

White people are killed twice as much by police than black people. The same amount of unarmed white and blacks were killed.

You know why you don't know that fact? Because the left-wing media and people like you are racist towards white people and don't even tell the story when it's a white person killed by cops.

I like how anti-white racists like you try to manipulate those statistics by trying to incoporate population. So let's get this straight. If someone were to go out and murder 5 people.. 4 of them white and 1 black you'd try to explain to someone that more black people were actually murdered because you have to take population into account? You can't see how stupid that sounds?

I also love how your complaints don't go towards gender too... why are far more men murdered than women? Why don't your liberal studies teach you about female privilege?

You also might want to look up interracial violence. Black people are 27 times more likely to attack a white person than vice versa. Racism is definitely real. Minorities are very racist towards white people.

LOL, what a **** class... As I stated earlier, these types of studies are busy work that allows people who pursue advanced degrees in subjects of no tangible value to pretend like they matter in the world. You never addressed my comments on how limited white privilege is globally. It doesn’t exist in any Asian countries, the ME or in Africa today.

The point of liberal arts is to teach critical thinking. You flunked.

The video claims they are dressed alike. The Black kid has the long Tshirt and is dressed like a hood. The white kid is dressed like a typical middle class kid. The white kid sounds educated while the Black kid has a thick accent. If you say that is racist, you just prove you are a moron. People react to how you are dressed. When I would go look for cars after work in a suit, I couldn't beat the salesmen off. When I just wanted to look and not be bothered, I would go in the morning in a Tshirt & jeans and skip shaving. I couldn't get anyone to help me if I wanted.

The white kid is also bigger while the Black kid is smaller. People are more likely to be scared of the bigger kid and less willing to confront him.

Video is total BS propaganda that you fell for. I wonder if the makers were morons or merely manipulative.

Reminds me of that NBC piece about 10 years back trying to prove racism by having a bunch of 12 year old Black kids go into a jewelry store. The workers encouraged them to leave. If you have 12 year kids in a jewelry store, they are in there for one reason. To cause trouble. The employees correctly deduced that.

And guess what? When I was 15-25 I got followed around in retail stores. I didn't get mad about it. I thought it was amusing. Since my Dad was in retail, I was probably the last person in that store to shoplift. But I knew they were just doing their jobs. My son is in that age range and gets followed around too.

(edit-going back to the video, didn't you learn about colors? Tells me they knew they were manipulating people. The Black kid wore red. The white kid wore blue).

Not only that, but the blonde chick was outfitted with rather tight, short shorts and nice view of her body with the tank top. No wonder all the middle aged (and young) guys were trying to help. But that is seemingly held as a case of racism. Lolz.

All it proved to me is people are fricking busy bodies and need to mind their own business. Except in the case of the girl I thought of an old Queen album cover.

And one other thing-at the start, the Black kid has his back to you. The White kid tends to be facing outwards. So you have body language that is somewhat hidden vs. openness. The manipulators who made the film didn't do any of this by chance.

RE: GaSo in news in a bad way
Guys, leave him alone. As he ages and gains experience he will likely be able to see his education for what it was. What's the saying, if you're 20 and not liberal you don't have a heart. If your 40 and not conservative you don't have a brain.

That's the thing about colleges tirelessly working to create their own social construct, they are working with the least experienced, most easily molded of us. Wonder how many pictures of whites in Appalachia they showed to that class to demonstrate white privilege? How many pictures of black professionals in Manhatten? Did they discuss that Asians, who aren't white, are openly discriminated against by the same Ivy Towers that start all this indoctrination yet they are more successful on average than whites? Did they discuss how white priveledge has kept the African continent living in perpetual poverty long after colonialism went away?

This is the most irratating topic to me personally. I was born in Appalachia. My father was a truck driver after he got out of the Air Force and was killed in an accident when I was 4. My mother graduated HS and also joined the Air Force where she met my dad. She was 25, had 2 kids and no work experience when he died. No one in my family, uncles, aunts, cousins, grandparents, etc. had ever attended college. I just have a hard time spotting my priveledge.

I made a decision that I wanted more out of life than I saw around me. I started working 40 hours a week when I was 15 and kept my grades up. I paid my way through college working as a roofer 70-80 hours a week in the summer and over any breaks. I graduated in 4 years, never changed majors or messed around in college. I retired at 50 after a 28 year banking career with a decent 7 figure net worth. I started out as a flunky, but turned the lights on in the morning and turned them out at night, chased people around asking them to teach me stuff and worked my way up to senior management.

What I did can be done by anyone if they are willing to work, have strong ethics and are willing to set high goals for themselves and live below their means. I had no role model growing up, I just knew from looking around that I wanted more and I didn't want my family to have the hardships I had growing up. Now, my daughter will have certain priveledge because I paid for her college and I have contacts that will help her professionally, but I worked hard to get that for her.

It takes a generational sacrifice to improve the quality of life for a family, and that should be the focus more than race. When you look at things through the lense of groups instead of individuals you just generalize problems and don't come to any solutions that are meaningful. You want to help minority communities? Quit telling them it's someone else's fault and start showing them what they have to do to succeed on a more individual basis.

Yikes. First time visiting on this part of the website, and I think I entered a bizarro world. I'm only took few sociology classes as free electives, but even I can see denial when I see it. 03-confused

Let me guess, CNN is fake news, racism is a thing of the past, gender gap doesn't exist, Global Warming is a conspiracy, America should build a wall? Really wish I found this site few years ago so I could've reached out to few of you for interviews as case studies in my paper lol.

Forgive me if I trust the works of academic studies from respected scholars over anonymous hardcore conservatives. I thought about relaying some notable academic studies on these matters, but frankly, I dont think you guys really want to hear it. Probably more trouble than it's worth..not for free anyways. Have a good day everyone.

In other words, you blindly believe what you read instead of using liberal arts skills like critical thinking. We ask hard questions about your doctrine and you won't address the questions. You hide behind "experts" who are "experts" in a field they invented that defies common sense and a lot of actual science.

One general challenge of your faith in academic studies and one specific one. If these don't help I can give you dozens more links that show that bias has been shown to drive the results of a majority of studies in sociology.

And I have yet to read a study highlighted in the mainstream press in sociology whose science isn't laughable.

Maybe there is good stuff in the trade journals, but the stuff the press picks up is ridiculous. Phds in Sociology seem to have chosen the field because they couldn't pass a math or statistics or logic test.

Actually, he refuses to engage with the 'Have a good day everyone'. Funny that. Toss in the trope, then when confronted on it, run the hell away. Lolz.

A true academic if I ever saw one.

Most people who profess the supposed background that you do would try to engage with facts, and issues. You --- run away.

I will be more than happy to discuss the science behind AGW, I am more than up to that task Sparkles, in a very objective manner.

I can also discuss not necessarily the 'fake news', but a news network that has a very obvious and glaring bias issue.

I will be more than happy to discuss economic studies on a gender gap, and discuss why such a gap might exist apart from rank discrimination.

I will be more than happy to discuss the role of racism in todays society, and a comparative analysis of the last 60 years of this society.

My suggestion to you is that if you want to discuss them, then discuss them. Instead what you do is toss some smug ass comments over the wall --- then run away with your tail tucked between your legs.

It's racist to assume that people of a different skin color are somehow unable to provide for themselves and make a life for themselves the same way white people can.

We’re not saying it’s impossible. We’re saying it’s a lot harder for those without privilege to catch up to those who do have it.

Having white skin doesn't give you privilege. We have laws that make it a requirement to hire minorities. We have laws making it a requirement for colleges to accept minorities. If anything that's the privilege. This isn't judging someone based on the content of their character it has everything to do with the color of their skin. If it was about character then race wouldn't be asked on applications.

Well, I think I'm going to stop arguing with you. You're clearly not willing to look at anything deeper than the surface of an issue.

Read through the entire thread and I had the same thought when I got to this comment. If you cannot even admit that being white in America comes with a form of privilege (be it SES, profiling, work force, the list goes on) you're living in a complete fantasy land of either willful ignorance or complete denial.

If you think white skin is a benefit everywhere to all whites then you live in a bubble and need some diversity lessons
