Dude is a cro-magnon man.
Agreed.
I know we're very focused on it here, but is this story getting any traction with national media? Seems to me it's the kind of issue that blows up on social media and then cable sports or cable news pick it up and run with it.
Darren Rovell was on it. Had some choice things to say about his experience with UM athletics RE: mental health. Basically, Rovell runs a free clinic on mental health and usually has hundreds of attendees at each school. UM sent 10 athletes -- which just further demonstrates how much UM and Jim give a **** about mental health issues.
Most disappointing thing of all of this is the UM fan (twitter at least) reaction to this. All trying to denigrate Hudson, his mother, Rovell, and people with depression/anxiety in general just to support their Football team and Head Coach. I know if the roles were reversed I would absolutely hold Fickell and UC accountable if they had this attitude.
Being close to the epicenter, there is quite literally nothing like the Harbaugh fanaticism that most Michigan fans have.

He would be better suited in the NFL though where you can be less sensitive in what you say.
When he was in the NFL they were saying that he is better off in the NCAA, because the player is only there for 4 years. That way there is less time for Harbaugh to piss the player off.

...he would be better in pee-wee. I'm sure he will be more in touch with the emotional well being of grade schoolers. Takes one to know one, right?

RE: Jim Harbaugh on James Hudson
As someone who believes that Harbaugh himself has long dealt with some kind of developmental issue (probably a high functioning Asperger's) that's been ignored because the cocoon of football has always protected him from having to address it, I wonder if his inability to show even a little bit of restraint and common sense here is some deep psychology at play. "If mental health issues are fake then clearly I have never had one!"

RE: Jim Harbaugh on James Hudson
I'd say 95% have some type of mental health issue. This is going to be one of those where do you draw the line and the argument will go on forever (too lenient, too harsh).
But, yeah there was no need for those comments at Big 10 media day. Joke.

I don't think it's fair to question anyone's mental health unless you're a doctor.
That said, the NCAA opening up this transfer portal has kinda been a distaster. They need to go back to the transfer and sit rule with the exception of coaches leaving. Unsure how to solve the problem of coaches screwing over their players when they leave.

NCAA denies Cincinnati Bearcats appeal for James Hudson's immediate eligibility
How many years of eligibility does he have once he is able to suit up? Is he losing a year of eligibility because his has to sit out?
Two since he burned his RS as a Frosh at UM he doesnt have that to fall back on this year. He'll be a RS Jr. next season for us.

Thx BearcatMan. Obviously it would have been great to have him active for the upcoming season. iirc, he was being penciled in as running with the 1s (i don't recall where i saw this) but at least we now know where we stand with him going forward. Still looking forward to a good to potentially great season from the Bearcats.
Do we know what the starting OL is going to look like?

Old Khaki Pants must be pleased with himself. His comments on the issue alone should have been reason enough for the NCAA to approve the waiver. No surprises here though. The NCAA is a corrupt organization that places its own interests ($$$$$) over those of their student athletes.

Ah, I think this goes back to the old notion that "the NCAA is so mad at Kentucky that they'll slap three more years on Cleveland St."
Justin Fields' story to transfer to O$U was NOT that his @$$ was sitting the bench behind Fromm and wanted to go elsewhere... but that a (1) fan yelled racist comments at him while at Georgia.
APPROVED!!!
Here is my loose translation of the NCAA's saying with their decision here:
Well, we've got to deny SOME waivers or we'll look like we're an irrelevant entity that just rubber stamps the ones going to the big boys. So, lets see.... um, yeah, deny that guy going to Cincinnati since you know, we rubber stamped the guy going to O$U. That'll make us look like we actually review these things.
Yeah, that's the ticket.

The crazy thing about Fields’ story is that his sister is still at Georgia. If, we are to buy the argument his parents were so concerned about the culture at UGA was is it their daughter is still there?

It's as simple as this: if James Hudson was trying to transfer to a P5 school he likely gets approved. Transfer to an up-and-coming program in G5? DENIED.
I will root against Jim Harbaugh until he is out of coaching. What a clown.

I generally agree, except once a year, unless Michigan is more than a game in front of that school in Columbus

I could never root for the Suckeyes but I feel just about as strongly about Harbaugh. I'll be rooting for whichever team hurts the B10 playoff chances by winning.

This has all been an interesting development. There has always been a decent sized t-shirt Michigan fan base in Greater Cincinnati. My guess is many of them became Michigan fans out of opposition to Ohio State. Starting to think that a few will find themselves in the pickle of now not rooting for either. That is a good for UC.
The moral to all of this is that it is a conflict of interest to be a UC fan and root for another school in the region. Eventually, there will be a conflict of interest. Our fans/alums/students rooting for OSU, Michigan, UK, Indiana (even casually) is the reason why we are stuck in the AAC.

I think it's all relative to when you grew up in Cincinnati. UC football was non-existent as far as TV/radio/newspaper exposure while I was growing up (40 years old). Most of us who loved sports followed national teams because you could watch them play on TV. I liked Michigan, I had a number of friends who liked Florida State. But the need to follow a national team vs. a local team died due to the expansion of media/TV exposure.
I haven't followed any other teams since I graduated UC in 2001 and never will. I'd feel weird wearing another school's gear.
The UC fan explosion really occurred during the BK era 07-09. I'd think as these kids grow up you should see a lot less split allegiances than my era.
