You have a point but the poster in question is a troll. His reputation precedes him.

You're absolutely right, this is a troll thread from a dude who roots for Georgetown and another blathering poster who roots for UTEP. You know, both the powers of basketball relevancy over the past several decades. To suggest that a basketball only conference is a place for Cincinnati to park its program after our university, alumni and fans desire to also play and succeed at the highest level in football is just asinine.

It wasn't a troll post, but a legitimate idea. You may disagree, and I respect what Bearcats fans think about their own school, LOL. But I think it is asinine to think that Cincy has any more aspirations to be in a Power conference than does UConn, and UConn just did it.

Also, what progress has Cincy football made towards Power status since joining the AAC? None I can think of. Your football program is in a worse place now than it was 8 years ago - not surprising since the AAC isn't a P-league like the Big East was. In four years of divisional play, you've never even won an AAC division much less the AAC title, and your eek-it-out win over a 6-6 VT team in the mighty Military Bowl last December was your first bowl win in six years of AAC football. Not exactly a surge towards greater relevancy. FWIW, the same applies to USF.

Also, I seem to think your football, from a brand POV, is more valuable than you do. I bet you could get $4m a year at least from ESPN as an independent, and that would beat the Aresco money right there.

Beyond that, like UConn, Cincy has zero *aspirational* football affinity with AAC schools. I mean, were you playing schools like Temple, Memphis, USF, and ECU in football 15 years ago? Yes. But are those the schools you want to be playing 15 years from now? No.

So I'm just not sure why you think an AAC football schedule is so vital to Cincy "P" aspirations.

Again, UC is not UConn. There are tons of good high school football players in cincinnati, that UC can snatch up and have a good team on any given year. UConn's recruiting base in new england is not even close to the same level. they're not analogous. football is just more viable and stable at UC by a lot and thus they're much less suited to the current iteration of the Big East.

UC has been a beast, they also play the big boy sport which is what drives the bus in college sports. The big east never understood this and still have no clue. They look at the small fry sport and try to talk down to far superior schools and it is so comical. Enjoy UConn women’s basketball and rowing, big move for big east. UConn literally just killed the biggest sport by far and the small minded northeast leaders don’t even know yet.

I can tell the Big East is small time because of how little you care about the conference.

Seriously, Mick won 3 NCAA tournament games in the American, he had them operating some ways away from "beast". And football drives the bus, but it can frequently take the bus off a cliff. The drain of football can kill athletic departments and even bankrupt schools. UConn was in such a situation and did what they could to get out. We'll see what happens long term, but hanging on to the dream of major college football is not always a healthy route for a school.

If I were to quip on a board that UTEP is irrelevant that would be banter. Making critical commentary of UTEP in thousands of threads, including arguing the absurd would be trolling.

That is a lie. 11-2 last season and recruiting has never been better including when UC was in the BE.

You think one season, a season in which you didn't win anything except an eek-out win in the Military Bowl over a basket-case VT team, refutes what I said about your *tenure* in the AAC?

That is laughable. 03-lmfao

These AAC fanboys are used to posting on the AAC board, where the Mods ban anyone who doesn't 100% follow the "AAC is P6!" "AAC is on the Rise and Cannot be stopped!" and "Aresco is God!" party lines. So they crumble into whimpering little girls when they are outside their safe zone.

Didn't win anything? I counted 11 wins. When did people stop counting wins. The Military Bowl was one of the best bowls to watch last season. You are one messed up individual.

I said you won something - the Military Bowl, albeit over a bad team and by a bare margin. Beyond that, who did you beat in those 11 wins? Probably the best team was Ohio. Not Ohio State, Ohio.

Seriously?

RE: Should Cincy join UConn in the Big East?
I've been reading the board for years (but just started posting). Sometimes this back-and-forth bickering, name calling, trolling and one-ups-manship is downright juvenile.

I come here to get insider info and varying fan perspectives and then ... I see all this. The sad thing is, most of the folks engaging in this absurdity are knowledgeable and often offer positive comments and interesting tidbits.

I'm almost 60 and have followed college sports for about 50 years. Maybe I'm too old to understand the "psychology of trash talking."

As I've noted in a few previous posts, I have long followed two teams from the American and two from the Big East. My personal and professional background involves universities in the Atlantic Coast, AAC, Big East, Big Ten, Conference USA, Great Midwest and Southeastern conferences. So all this nonsense of "my league is better than yours," "this is going to damage whatever conference," etc. ... I just don't relate. I try to be civil.

Now, I do agree there is a need for constructive criticism, frank admission of setbacks and the minimizing of one's insecurities and sensitivities. But some of this stuff ... just pathetic.

There is much to learn about college sports and how universities and their athletic programs positively impact their respective communities. And I have learned a good bit about that on this board. But it could be better. Alas, it won't be.

So feel free — any of you — to go ahead and slam me for being a soft, stiff, "too nice," old and clueless idiot. I'm prepared.

I think it's great that you've come out of the shadows and are offering your perspective. I've found your posts to be interesting.

But this board does have posters with many styles of communicating, and IMO, given that college athletics is by its nature passionate and emotional, it is unrealistic to expect, and would be rather dull, if every discussion had the character of a NASA press briefing. And the mods do a good job of policing it, many have been banned for crossing the lines.

I'd say "just skip over the food fight posts and read the ones that have the tone you prefer", but as a lurker you have probably been doing that for years anyway.

UC hasn’t done anything in football?
They literally just finished in the top 25 final polls last year with 11 wins. I know you don’t watch the big boy sport and just follow women’s rowing and track and field, so try and troll better. Also have a great recruiting class and preseason top 30 for this year. Say what you want about UC but they have done more with less than anyone I can think off the top of my head. Even your small fry sports that have constantly over achieved. They aren’t dropping their big boy sport and taking a pay cut to join a small fry conference without football. I don’t even root for UC and argue with most of their posters but respect with they do on the field/ women’s pitch whatever small fry sport you speak of

Unlike UConn, Cincinnati has a very good shot of upgrading conferences in the next round of conference realignment. There is a decent chance that Texas and Oklahoma shake up the Big 12 and leave right after the television contract/GOR runs out. If that were to happen, Cincinnati along with Memphis/Houston/UCF has a good shot of being invited to a redux version of the Big 12. Cincinnati just needs to keep winning on the gridiron and the hardwood, onwards and upwards.

Cincy's doing very different math in terms of priorities, culture, and history with the schools in question, and also they couldn't get an invite anyway because of X. That's about all there is to it.

You think squeaking in to the top 25 one time in six years of AAC football is accomplishing something?

How is it not? The polls usually start with no G5s. Last season 5 of them finished ranked.

You can call it what you want but that is just an ignorant statement. If you look at the #24 budget ole miss spent 1200000 last year and UC was roughly 60 in rankings with 6000000 spent. If you do day trading or look at value that is an amazing return on investment. Statistically speaking it just shows how low your IQ is when it comes to the big boy sport. Not to mention a top basketball team and wow even baseball didn’t suck which is even a bigger shock to me. They sure did handle USF who was in the top 25 until they had to play a good team like UC.

I come here to get insider info and varying fan perspectives and then ... I see all this. The sad thing is, most of the folks engaging in this absurdity are knowledgeable and often offer positive comments and interesting tidbits.

Point well made about how we don’t want the board to be dull. Agree.

I typically skip the food fight posts, but this latest seemed particularly driven by generic, uninspired and tiresome nastiness.

Maybe after I’ve been posting for three or four months and some of the posters on the board find me to be offputtingly diplomatic and lacking in a willingness to engage in wordsmithing sparring, somebody will hammer me with some true originality and inventiveness (which this board’s posters rarely offer — opting instead for near-venomous attacks).

Here is an example to help with that future effort:

What’s the deal with the Bill Dazzle name?
He’s pretentious … lacks trash-talking game
His posting style … too nice
And that junk won’t suffice
To this board, his contributions — lame

Give me that type “playing the dozens” and I’ll give the poster a high-five from afar.

I’m sure I’ll get jumped on some as I continue to post and that will be fine. Some Memphis fans already jabbed me a bit on the AAC board — and the Tigers are one of the many teams I follow and support. But that’s fine. I don’t mind if strangers mock me because they mean nothing to me and I mean nothing to them. Such trivial matters almost make me chuckle. At my age, I’m just thankful I’ve got a well-working prostate and that my employer lets me flirt with the many beautiful women in their 20s and 30s and with whom I work.

Thanks for the nice words about my posts, Quo. I try.
