BTW That UCLA game Stokes poured in 35 points.
Heroic effort but not well remembered because it was an L.

haha. you guys are hilarious.

You just compared a program that won 10 national championships in a row to a program that’s been to 1 sweet sixteen in two decades...who’s hilarious?

Oh wow, did you really just compare Mick to Wooden hahaha

A pet peeve of mine is people who think they scored by replying "did you really just compare X to Y?" to situations where they are actually partially making the OP's point. Just because one mentions X and Y doesn't mean one is saying X and Y are equivalent. In many cases, they are actually acknowledging the differences and citing it for effect (.e.g. if you are complaining about this, you'd also probably complain about something much better because your expectations are whacked).

That concludes this public service. Carry on.

IMO Mick's recruiting was good enough this year and last... Mick's game management and game prep are what cost UC those 2 games. Yes, the players shoulder some of the blame but...
** Yesterday, why put freshmen and sophomores who have been no where near impressive into the game when you had Iowa on the ropes? In the space of 3 or 4 possessions, a 13 point lead became a 6 or 7 point lead because our players couldn't complete at that level
** When putting Brooks back in with 4 fouls, why put him on the guy who was the most active offensive force at that point in the game instead of the guy with 4 fouls?
** Again we get killed by a team making a hundred 3's and that was known to be a 3 point shooting team. Yet we consistently had 3 or 4 guys collapsing in the lane. For the sake of argument, if the 11 3's Iowa made yesterday were all 2's, UC wins by 4. I realize that's not overly realistic but it shows the importance of 3 point defense vs. taking so much pride in our 2 point defense percentage.
** Treating the NCAA tournament like an AAC game. Teams get down during league play and it's over... kinda. But in a "win or go home" scenario, teams don't quit, they fight harder. And it's not about saving someone's legs. If you can't beat the team your playing, how do you plan to beat a theoretically better or hour team a couple days later.
** Shorten the bench. Almost every coach without the highest elite talent does it, why does Mick insist on doing everything the same. IMO, player #8 or 9 in the rotation would rather be on a Sweet 16 team than play 8 or 10 minutes and get outstretched in a Round of 64 game.

That doesn't mean he's wrong. You, on the other hand, are demonstrably wrong. This team was outstanding just last week in the middle of MARCH culminating with a relatively easy victory over a top 10 team on a neutral floor for the Conference Championship. That's the opposite of sucking.

Nobody is happy after losing in the NCAA tourney. But that's how it ends for all but one team that makes it. Sure it would be nice to have played a few more games, but this team was never going to win it all. We were going to see the same temper tantrums no matter when we lost. I don't understand why more people can't enjoy the journey and the achievements along the way. Being among the last 32, 16 or even 8 teams in a tourney isn't the gold ring to me that nullifies all that happened prior to it, good or bad.

Hey guys, in November I wonder how many of us thought we would do as well as we did?

I think on the season we did very well. I truly think the tournament pressure got us.

Then why accept your bid to the tournament? Why not just play the regular season and conference tourney and then just give your bid away to a program with a fanbase that wants and expects to penetrate in March?

We have FOUR returning guards. And that counts Williams (more of a small 3 IMO) and Moore (well-documented by now). So, if Mick is again inactive on the grad transfer market, we're looking at relying on probably 10-15 minutes from a true freshman.

Ummm...that doesn't wash with your stance of "March penetration is meaningless compared to the regular season". As a regular season fan, the regular season should be sufficient.

Besides...the team that gets our bid might be coached by someone who cares about penetrating and says so publicly. I'm certain they'd relish the opportunity.

Incidentally...since all we seem to want to do is "make the tournament" I'd argue that we are investing too much in the quality of the program...we should strive to make the tourney as a 16 seed every year...that way we could cut down on coaches salaries and scholarships and still keep the "streak" alive. Heck...we could set a record for consecutive trips to the play-in game.

BTW...how does it promote the University to flame out in March?

Seems that would detract from the image of the AD...

I don't think you know what quotes mean and/or don't know how to use them correctly. That isn't a quote from me. We can discuss differences rationally. There's no need to create straw men or make things up.

This is an actual quote from me: "Nobody is happy after losing in the NCAA tourney." But that isn't in any way incompatible with saying the journey was part of the fun and that loss shouldn't nullify all that happened before it including our March penetration (?) in the AAC tourney.

Winning the AAC is nice....but until we start winning in March, we won't have national respect.

If all we ever do is win a mid major conference and lose our March opener, people will just say, "see, if they played in a real conference they wouldn't even be in the tourney".

The rankings and seedings (to an extent) which are done by knowledgeable followers of college basketball suggest otherwise.

Even some of the critical comments (I'm not including anonymous keyboard yahoos here) are actually signs of respect. For example, I'm paraphrasing here but didn't Barkley say something like UC is too good of program not to have advanced further the last few years? That's totally a sign of respect. I pretty much agree with him (with a caveat about sample size). But that doesn't negate the regular season and AAC success we've had, it's actually a reflection of respect for what has been accomplished in those games.

Didn't the 3rd best team in our conference just lose by 1 to Duke in a nail-biter (and I'm not even bringing up the officiating)? I get that it's a loss, but we'll see how the teams from "real" conferences do against them the rest of the way (we've seen how they've done against them so far when Duke is healthy). Point is it's all just spin.

C'mon #1, "people" are always going to say something negative in this anonymous online world. Is "haters gonna hate" still a saying? Win too much and they're just going to say you're cheating 03-wink

Maybe I'm using too much anecdotal evidence for my theory....but I know a ton of people that think our conference is mid major and so winning it and then flaming out in March only reinforces their notion.

Either way, if we want to get to Gonzaga's level, we have to do something in March. They have the respect they do, not because they win that crap conference but because they beat the big boys OOC and esp in March.

If we want to get to Gonazaga's level we have to do something in March. And then do it again, and again.

We can't even get through the front door.
