I feel like torturing myself tonight. Where can I hear the press conference?

I know this because I've been watching football for a long time. Trust me, you had a little help from the opposing team.

You guys got shut out the second half....and got destroyed by Libertys offense. For you to validate that you know football by saying that we’re not good and you guys lost because you missed opportunities is absurd. Yeah...that gets me too. We also stormed the field last year for blocking a field goal to win it against Indiana St.... As much as I hate to say it that describes the majority of our student fan base. Over zealous, uninformed, and way to excited sometimes....

Ed Miller pretty much says the same thing.

flat and out of sync.

Old Dominion falls flat in season opener at Liberty

For the record.

Liberty is a very sound football team on both sides of the ball.
The QB and WRs are excellent.

We lost to a good team. For gosh sake they beat Baylor last year. I don't care how bad Baylor was.
It remains to be seen if the Flames rush defense is that good or our rush offense is not nearly as good as we expected.
Our D-line was not as dominant as I expected, so that remains a question as well.

However there is little doubt that our QB play was not good, and our play calling/game plan was haphazard at best.

Had we played up to what I believed our potential is, IMHO, we still don't win the game,

You guys are good.

04-cheers

Are you ******* kidding me right now. Either Heinicke, Demarco or David Washington would've wrapped it up and mailed it to Norfolk. There is no doubt that Liberty played much better and was the better team to night but saying that we wouldn't win even with our best effort is just dumb. The coaches had all off season to see what Steven Williams can do and that mothafucker Ron Whitcomb son of a ***** is blind as a bat to not see that. Liberty played better, was coached better and deserved to win this and i am not taking anything away from them although i hope Wood Selig along with these clowns get the boot.

I understand but we have a defense now which none of those capable QB's have and i am seriously questioning my self do we have one because we are supposed to have one of the best edge rushers and DL's in the conference and we let Liberty walk all over us. We need pony up some money and get ourselves good coaches. But i guess its what it is we got whopped by Liberty.

Well, certainly our QB play was less than stellar. Indeed SW seemed to have more time to throw than our QBs have had in recent seasons, and our receivers were getting open; which made over throws and wrong shoulder throws that much more glaring.
We still are missing more tackles than I believe we should.
When my feed was not out it seemed we still are still playing too far off the WRs; although tonight even with the cushion we got burned, so maybe it was the correct call.

Only time will tell if:
1. our running game was way overrated or Liberty rush D is that good.
2. our DL was way overrated or the Liberty pass and run blocking was just that good.

Liberty may be just that good, but we had our chances in the 1st half.
In the second half we quit. I have never seen an ODU team do that before.

SW is not the answer at QB. He runs for his life better, and can see better, but overall SB was a better QB than SW; and that scares me.

Our qb is young and apparently over rated
Our coach makes decisions a high school coach wouldn't make.
Army will crush Liberty with their funky offense.
And Florida I. will do whatever they want.
Will we start the season 0-5?

If we lived up to our potential with the product we put on the field last night, i think we win. Liberty was the better team last night and much better tahn I gave them credit for, for sure, 100%, but we were disjointed and awkward from stem to stern and were still on down 2 TDs going into the 4th. If we were running on all 8 cylinders...****, if we were running on 6 of 8, it goes down the the wire. As it was, the steering column is bent, alignment is off, transmission needs work, a tire is flat, needs plugs and wires and because of all that, we ran out of gas.

We've got three practice days to get all that fixed and out of the shop.

ODU Football Opponent Preview: Liberty
I'm still not sure I understand exactly what we got out of the move to FBS. FCS was more exciting, better football, better football players, better teams and less expensive. Time to mix this experiment, we can't afford to keep up with UCF, Memphis, or even FAU, much less Alabama, Clemson, and Ohio State.

I traveled to Pittsburgh and NC State with some level of confidence we'd be in exciting games with an outside shot of pulling the upset. Now I can't even drum up motivation to go to home games and my son has zero interest. Those FCS players may have been a little smaller and perhaps a step slower, but they were better football players. I'm not sure this team full of bottom level FBS recruits could even beat the team we fielded against Chowan 10 years ago.

Congrats to you and your fellow Liberty fans. I can admit when Im wrong and yall looked like a seasoned FBS team. The changes you made to the defensive front made a big difference. You have a middle linebacker that looks like an NFL player. The QB was fantastic.

It was certainly a strange game (and an embarrassment, no getting around it). I felt all the way thru the middle of the 3rd that we would find a way to win. The running game was a disappointment but I cannt fathom how many points Williams left on the field with his inaccuracy. The kid has all the tools but his inaccuracy killed us. Missed wide open Duhart for easy touchdowns at least twice and any decent throw to Anthony is a td. I honestly felt like any decent QB accuracy and its a 31-14 type game midway theu the 3rd. But ifs and buts mean nothing. Larussa is more accurate but is limited to dumpoffs and cant move around as well.

Defensively, no issues until the last 1Q+. Wtf was that? They quit? I thought the DL really controlled the game to that point and were not lettig Calvert get comfortable. They forced him to get rid of the balll. The secondary was hanging in despite every touch being a penalty. Very impressed with the Liberty QB, he was the difference in the game. He was composed and completed passes under duress. That slot receiver was incredible.

I hope we have a rivalry with Liberty in the future. You guys played well and are well coached. Great environment. Best of luck to you guys.

There will be no rivalry. Liberty is clearly miles ahead of us in infrastructure, money and atmosphere, talent. We can't catch up with our limited resources and a sandlot coaching staff.

It's just one game. Our team is trash. Liberty thinks they are Notre Dame because they whipped a trash team like ours. If we do better in our next games (which I don't think we will) and if Liberty can win some games they are not supposed too (which I doubt they will) then the beating they gave us is justified. Our team is trash, just roll with it and see what the next game brings along with Wilder's excuses!

We were supposed to get $1.2 million per year, the best stadium in all the G5, an annual conference game with ECU, way better statewide press and every game on broadcast TV. None of that was the case even after one season.

FCS was more exciting, better football, better football players, better teams and less expensive. Time to mix this experiment, we can't afford to keep up with UCF, Memphis, or even FAU, much less Alabama, Clemson, and Ohio State.

Money, apparently. Which is no longer there.

I absolutely believe our FCS playoff teams would beat the team we have right now.

Too early to tell but the big difference was having Heinicke; who is a complete game changer. Those defenses were so bad though. This defense would still look really good compared to those. Those were bad FCS defenses. I still think his defense will be decent.
