How can they? Remember Bohn is on record saying the notches were a safety improvement. Remove them and a player gets hurt going into the wall? We all can imagine the suit through Dewey, Chetum and Howe.

We should probably just return all the money and free advertising we've accumulated by changing the walls a little bit. Seriously, no one cares about them. It's a stupid talking point.

I'm pretty sure it's been said on here before but the European soccer model is more akin to capitalism than anything else. American sports (including the MLS) follow a socialistic paradigm.

It will never cease to amaze me how angry soccer makes your typical American football fan.

I really do not understand this thread and I am sure as heck not going to go through the posts that I missed. Why do we care that Nippert is subleased for a lot of money to a soccer club. This is a win for all parties. The notches???????????? Seriously?????????

I think FC Cincinnati should play one MLS game at Nippert every year.

Because it's really not a lot of money. Certainly less than market value in may people's opinion.

The notches look horrible, and we were promised that any changes would be reversed by FCC. Call it trivial, but a deal is a deal.

People like to live life pissed off. This has been great for uc and for Clifton. Good thing is all the noise is irrelevant.

But compared to nothing, it is a lot of money for UC and Clifton restaurants. Changing the integrity of the stadium with the notches is not a rationale argument. Nippert looks nothing like it did circa 1991 when I went to school. Anyway, nothing for any of us to get the blood pressure up. 02-13-banana

I think the UC mission statement says "Support Clifton restaurants!"

The purists feel that Nippert should lay dormant for everything except FB. It should never be used for anything else...even in the off-season.

I think it actually hurts their pride that the AD needs the $$ and that FB is not the cash cow they envision. They believe UC should be an NC contender when they have nowhere near the personnel or tradition to even approach that level. They are honestly shocked when the team comes up snake-eyes against poor competition.

Believe me.

I want Nip to earn more money, just did not want it permanently altered. Would be in favor of outdoor concerts, HS football, and even kickball if not altered.

The Nip has been permanently altered many times over the last 15 years without comment from the purists. Only when the notches came in did we hear protest...this leads me to believe that the opposition is to soccer, and not the fact that the facility is being altered.

The issue is not kickball or modifications, it is aesthetics!

What was done is UGLY.

I personally don't mind that a soccer team used our stadium.

I don't care that they removed a few seats that were lousy seats anyway.

I do like that they paid us a lot of money to use it and even made some improvements.

But I will grant you this...

I DO hate soccer. It's the stupidest game ever created.

Its a good game for small kids to play because it doesn't require a lot of skill or brainpower. By HS, 95% of kids have lost interest.

Europeans are crazy about it... which should send up red flags everywhere.

Soccer fans mess themselves over 90 minutes of a 0-0 game. Then they insist that Americans accept it like we do football. If you don't like it, they get in your face and act like you're some sort of a Neanderthal.

Even at the highest level, panzy-like faking of injuries is encouraged in hopes of getting the referee to decide the game instead of just being better than the other team.

Yeah, I hate soccer. GOD BLESS AMERICA !!!!

I'm much more concerned with how the product on the field looks vs stadium aesthetics. If loosing a couple extra rows in the corners enabled us to cash 5 years of rent payments and brought hundreds of thousands of people to campus, the majority of whom aren't UC people it was well worth it. Any rational person would make that deal.

I like soccer but I definitely don't agree that people who like it insist others who don't join in. To each their own. I do think the media coverage is reflective of a growing sport in this country especially in the young adult group. But if you don't like it nothing wrong with that, no sport is for everyone.

Those were alterations designed to improve the stadium for UC football, which is the reason the stadium exists. The soccer changes were sold as temporary, and they would be reversed by FCC should they ever leave.
