We had several players who clearly underperformed last season when compared to how they played prior seasons. That might be because of different schemes, strategies, motivation, or other things which coaches do. But to pretend that last seasons lack of success or production is all because the players were not "self motivated" enough is a silly idea, don't you agree? Spillane, for example, was a beast from the time he got to campus and had to learn to become a linebacker right up until last season, when he was adequate, but certainly didn't have the type of success any of us would expect from a senior who has been so outstanding his first three years.

The reality is that this was a different team under Lester than it was under Fleck. Those who wish to deny the success of Flecks mechanisms and style because they didn't like his personality are only kidding themselves. Fleck had a "new school" philosophy, and thinks big; even if it is just a MAC school or a B10 also-ran. That seems to offend those who prefer a "traditional" style.

The Cubit-to-Fleck and Fleck-to-Lester transitions were probably the most radical adjustments any college player would have to make. Every regime change takes some getting used to for a player, but it's obvious Enos-to-Bono type transitions aren't of that magnitude.

This isn't about "liking" one style over another, that's a matter of opinion. But those shifts had to be particularly jarring when you've gotten used to one culture.

It is sad that some can't simply find joy for Spillane - one of the best Bronco linebackers ever - getting an NFL opportunity without getting into pizzing matches about current and former coaches.

This isn't about PJ, or Tim, or Bill, or Al, or Enos, or Bono, or ______ (fill in the blank).

This is about Spillane.

Give the young man an "atta-boy" and save your childish peeves for another thread, please.

A Bronco is getting an NFL opportunity. We should be proud and grateful.
