College Hoops 2018 Season Thread
Wichita state barely survives at Tulsa 72-69. Tulsa had a three for the lead go halfway in and then had a chance to tie at end.

They aren't used to being tested by so many teams on the road that are capable of beating you, so I do expect them to have one or two WTF losses.

They argue they always have a bullseye, but there are a lot of middle of the pack teams with the talent to beat them, which wasn't the case in the MVC.

Nu-uh, they still got those OOC wins!
Anyone who goes down to them is enduring a good loss.

Like I said before, they're bad. The whole bottom half of the conference not named "Cincinnati" or "Wichita State" is pretty much just rubbish. Houston may end up being okay, but when we have to put our hopes in Houston winning at basketball, I think it's time to show a little concern.

They all suck and will drag our seed line down with them. They will beat the **** out of each other all yr long there will be a bunch of middlin conference records that will get them nowhere.

I see on Cincinnati.com this morning P. Doc's headline story about that team across town being Final Four ready. This after losing 2 out of the last 3 games and beating a soon to be unranked Creighton team in the friendly confines of Cintas.

I won't argue the point that the gang from Norwood may have the potential to advance, but UC is just as capable this season. If measured strictly in local media exposure, UC's considerable success YTD has clearly taken a backseat.

Regarding the AAC, the best result for the conference would be if brand name programs UCONN and Memphis stay hot and move up in the standings. Tulane is no doubt much improved but the fact remains there is bias in any ranking and conference power conversations and the former schools will be taken more seriously than the latter.

If we want local attention, we HAVE to beat Xavier. Doesn't guarantee we will get any, but it is the first requirement.

This is true. Wrong or right Xavier owns UC head to head in the past 20 yearsand to the casual observer that means they are a better program.

Second, we always have to remember 50% of the Tri-State dislikes UC and we will never convert those people. The media has to appease that 50% somehow.

If struggling with mediocre teams for a month and getting smoked twice recently doesn't scream final 4 I don't know what does. Funny thing is if you switch the names and we had Xavier's resume the Broos, Lance's, and the rest of the local anti UC media would be calling us a bubble team.

UConn has a great chance with Villanova coming up this week

Xavier has been much better than us since I have been following UC, so it is likely my fault that we continually lose to them. All my teams seem to lose important games.

UConn...Win their next three (@Memphis, Nova, SMU). And they’re back in the discussion. Last two at home. Tall order, but stranger things have happened.

That three game stretch may determine if Ollie keeps his job after this season.

UCONN is not favored in any of their next 6 games. Even if they somehow split those with that many losses and an early season neutral court win over Oregon as the only decent team they did not lose to OOC they are probably already playing for NIT seeding.

No doubt. But Nova is at UConn. And no one at Gampel will be intimidated.

Duke is not impressive at all. I know it's hard to beat a top 25 team on the road, but they just don't have that edge like some of his other teams and they don't play D at all. Coach K refuses to develop a bench and it bites him in the a $$ quite a bit.

The last duke title team was similar. Could often out Talent people on offense but very undisciplined on defense. They eventually figured it out. So much talent but they are very flawed right now.

I think the difference wit thst team was they did have Justice Winslow, whow gave them a ton of toughness. Quinn Cook was probably a better senior leader than Allen.
MB3 is really good though.

WVU is a fun team to watch. I'm not sure why Bob went away from pressing after the Van Exel teams, but it obviously works for him.

Having a rim protector like Konate is so beneficial to team that presses and traps.
