Southern miss is in the west, FAU and FIU are in the east.
Don't worry UCF you'll get your chance to play FAU, Sept 22,2018.

Maybe it's because you've won 1 conference championship in the last 15 years?
Nope. It's our opponents. A lot of the relatively newer fans grew up watching USM play Louisville, TCU, Army, USF, ECU, Memphis, Houston, Tulane, Cincinnati, and UCF.
RE: God, I'd give anything to be back in the same conference with y'all...
USM's biggest problems are
1) No market. This does matter; sadly.
2) The rise of schools like Troy, South Alabama, Georgia Southern, Texas State, F/AI/U, UCF, USF, UTSA, Georgia State, MTSU, etc...not that those schools are better but there are way more options for kids today to sign. Diluted the talent pool.

Our attendance is down, fan support is down, apathy is high...I think it has a lot to do with our current opponents. I know it shouldn't matter but our fans/big money donors just do not care about any of the teams on our schedule anymore. Its sad and depressing. Again, sorry for the pity post...sometimes it feels good to vent to old friends. I still can't get over the current state of USM athletics. I know we are our own worst enemy. The good news is the dinosaurs (school president, administrators, officials, coaches, and even our long time city mayor) who ALL contributed to the status that USM is currently in have died out...they've retired, resigned, fired/voted out all over the past 7 years. For the first time in 15 years our school is finally becoming somewhat stable. College realignment really happened at THE worst time possible for USM. Football has slowly somewhat recovered from the Ellis Johnson debacle of 2012. The Donnie Tyndall sanctions are officially over. I honestly think that if we are to ever get invited to the AAC, it'll only happen if we have a lot of success and proven investment in basketball (in addition to winning bowl games, conf/div championships in football) but I totally understand why y'all wouldn't want us. Anyways, I know this is a random post but again, I just needed to vent.
On a side note maybe we'll see each other in a bowl game in a month or so. I've seen a few projections showing USM playing Houston, Memphis, and USF though I'm sure y'all would prefer playing someone in a P5 conference (I don't blame y'all). Cheers!
I sent the same note to Louisville, Rutgers, and WV.

^Precisely
Back in the day (80s & 90s) every kid in MS/LA/AL...if you didn't sign with Alabama, Auburn, or LSU...then you signed with USM. Now you've got a LOT of schools kids can sign with and they get to stay close to mamas house. Also, kids in MS that would normally sign with USM are going to Baylor, WVU, GaTech, ASU, and Vandy thanks to. YouTube and the internet.

While USM has played Memphis (63), ECU (39), and Tulane (30) a ton, they have played current CUSA members LA Tech (49), UAB (16), North Texas (12), and Marshall (12) the same or way more than all of the other AAC members. Most of the nostalgia is for 3 schools. Schedule each other in OOC. Especially if it helps attendance for all of the schools involved.

Also played Houston 15 times since 1996. Would def be nice to be in the AAC and play some old rivals. It would be a win/win. It would clearly help USM, but I think it would also help some of the AAC teams - at least with ticket sales and interest.
Otherwise, I wish we would go Indy and schedule some of the AAC teams and other rival schools, including 3-5 "money" games. We are only getting $200k a year from the CUSA TV contract. One game with Auburn pays about $2 million. Think about that.
Nevertheless, it would be great playing Memphis, ECU, Houston, etc., instead of Charlotte, UTSA, North Texas State, etc.

This is why Tulane was added over southern miss or any other potential target.
Tulane brought with them academics, market and a beautiful new football stadium.
Tulane is a valuable member and have shown a recent commitment to athletics.
Tulsa in terms of overall performance cannot be matched in this conference, but they also make the Wichita State add make more sense as a regional rival, too.
There is not one team in this conference that isn't pulling their weight.... well, for the most part. The ECU add, at the time, made sense, and they still do if they can ever get their **** togeher.

This has to be the most pathetic thread I've ever read on this board. Hell, on any fan board! Truly pathetic. A So. Miss fan groveling over the conference that didn't want them. Pathetic.
