I bet teams hate going to the Rose, Orange, Cotton, Sugar (you get the picture) Bowls year after year.

Just be thankful we can complain about having to go back to Montgomery. The SunBelt getting 6 teams in bowls is an accomplishment. Imagine if this was 3-4 years ago. A lot of teams would be relaxing at home

RE: Official App State to Camellia Bowl to play Toledo
I think App got screwed. I wish the better teams went to the better bowls but it seems like at this level of play, App will always end up in the Camellia or Cure Bowls based on location. The NO and Mobile bowls will always take Louisiana/Arkansas State and Troy/Arkansas State respectively based on their Location. We got to go to Mobile last year bc conditions were just right. We're doomed to the Cure from here on out.
If I were an App fan I would be pushing the idea of a conference reshuffle so we could all go to CUSA bowls which are a little bit nicer.

Not disappointed at all. Had a great time last year. It's all about the game. Frankly, more interested in going somewhere that bowl is embraced by the community. In some places, it's just another game as a prelude to a bigger game. Really excited we get Toledo as an opponent, it will be a big time challenge for our D.
Exactly. I thnk some fans look at it more as a reward for them than the team. Three bowl games in Orlando this year. UCF/A State, WVa/Miami, and LSU/Louisville plus Mickey World and all the other stuff down there this game gets lost. There should be a decent UCF crowd, but don't see that many A State fans making the 800 mile trip. IMO what stinks is A State & App are on at the same time.

great post, you nailed it, in the back of our minds we know most years its going to be Montgomery or the Cure, and as the years go by, and the novelty of playing in the same bowls wears off, you wonder if our fanbase, and the players will lose interest, and that's not just App, GS, Troy, will go thru the same thing.

Question for you, which Ohio team was better, 2015 or 2016? We squeaked out a win against the Bobcats last year while you lost a close one this year.
This year because their defense is better.
6 point loss to 13-0 WMU. 9 point loss to 8-4 Tennessee. 7 point loss to 6-6 CMU and 7-5 EMU. 2 point shootout loss to Texas State in week one (weird). Ohio beat us, 6-6 Miami, and Kansas. All of their losses are close, so they are always in striking distance. Their offense still isn't very good though. They are very comparable to App State... Good D and good run game.
Thanks!

8+ hours is the closest team from the MAC to our closest bowl (Montgomery).... Imagine if you were Buffalo or NIU and the closest was 16 hours!! Idaho, northern Alabama, southern Alabama, Florida, or the Bahamas... The midwest has one bowl game and that's in Detroit and contracted to the BIG and ACC. Freaking sucks. At least most of your conference is close to every bowl destination.
This. App fans got spoiled when the drive over the mountains to Chattanooga was so close for the majority of our fan base, relatively speaking during the Nat'l Championships. For all the teams up north and upper Midwest that make bowls it's almost a guaranteed plane ride for their fans or one helluva drive. I'm not complaining at all about Montgomery, just thankful App is bowl eligible for the 2nd (technically 3rd) year in a row. While watching the bowl selection show yesterday I couldn't believe the amount of established programs that were going to only their 3rd bowl game in their history! App has definitely made a splash in FBS and will continue to grow as a program. Looking forward to playing Toledo as they have established themselves as a top tier program in the MAC.
On another note, I would bet the house that if the bowl committee were to get a game going in Charleston, SC as has been rumored, and App could be tied in somehow our fans wouldn't be complaining one damn bit. It'd be a setup just like ULL has with New Orleans.

This is a great matchup in terms of all the App/stAte crap talking that goes on on this board. App beats Toledo, who is basically stAte's daddy, they will have some good ammo. The venue should be excited that the Mountaineers are back since:
I didn't read the whole thread, sorry if similar thoughts have already been posted. Just had to put that pic in again, it cracked me up.

Charleston is one of my favorite places in the world to visit and always thought a bowl game there would be great. We may be seeing that wish comne true. Friday The Citadel's Board of Visitors announced intentions to "fully renovate" the other side of Johnson Hagood Stadium saying "all options" are on the table. A good friend was the Director of Athletic Giving there several years ago and he said the bowl game and FCS National Championship game is regularly discussed. It seats 21K now, but would need a minimum of 25K to host a bowl game. It would be a perfect bowl for App and other Sunbelt / CUSA teams in the Southeast.

RE: Official App State to Camellia Bowl to play Toledo
And with money sharing the bowl payout doesn't matter.
What matters is:
Date, time and channel of bowl. ESPN on the first saturday of Bowls at 5:30 pm with the only competition being on CBSSN (sorry ArkSt). - That's a home run.
Competition. A well established Mac team that has been ranked in the top 25 in the last several years. #3 in the MAC. vs. reigning Camellia champ and SunBelt Co-Champ.
Now compare to the other SunBelt bowls. USA got a great opponent but are stuck on in a bowl that's internet or local broadcasters only. A 6-6 SoMisss ins't a great get except for ULL.
I'd say the Camellia Bowl and DG Bowl have the best matchups and game time/channel for the conference. Which in turn make them the best bowls. Don't know why NO is such a prize with a 6-6 SoMiss

cant argue with your logic, but, I think that from an App standpoint, a lot of the fans and players wanted to experience another city and the bowl experience, their disappointed to be going back to Montgomery, it has nothing to do with the opponent. Speaking of opponents this game has the potential, atleast on paper to be one of the most entertaining games of the bowl season, Toledos big play offense against Apps big play defense, Toledo has no defense, so App should score a lot of points, and as good as our defense is, we're not going to shut down that offense, hopefully, we can slow it down, and hold them to field goals rather than tds. I think we could be looking at both teams scoring in the mid 30's to low 40's, and last one with the ball wins.

Toledo runs that fast paced up tempo offense that has traditionally given App fits. They also have a mobile QB that has caused App issues at times. I expect an excellent game and more points than you normally see in an App game. This one should be a lot of fun as both teams have been pretty impressive this year. Heading down to Montgomery again!!

Not meant to impress but saying Toledo has no Defense is incorrect.

I'd much rather App play in front of 1000s of their fans against a good team from the MAC. Playing EMU in an empty stadium at 1pm on a Friday does nothing for me.
