Last year the Big XII didn't provide a team but the HOD tracked down a Pac 12 team. Even if the B1G doesn't have enough for this year, hopefully the HOD will find somebody.

Nobody should want the Bahamas Bowl or Hawaii Bowl. I'm sure the teams would love it (which at the end of the day is what matters, I suppose), but very few fans would be able to attend and they don't attract much TV viewership which means less exposure and less $$$. Expect the best C-USA teams to stay on the mainland.

After the HOD (and I-Bowl if we get it), New Orleans would be the best for a west team, and Boca Raton for the east. Then New Mexico (probably UTSA or maybe UNT). The Bahamas and Hawaii come in last.

What if Boise State is in Hawaii, as some projections have them? Does a prominent opponent make a faraway bowl more attractive?

It could, but my understanding is that if Hawaii is bowl eligible, they go to the Hawaii Bowl. Period. So no Boise State. But even if BSU does go, I think the HOD against a P5 opponent is still the better choice.

Also, when C-USA is slotting its teams, would they know who the opponent is? Like would they know BSU was going before they decide who to send?

I should have noted that in this scenario, the Big 10 can't fill its HOD slot and it gets filled by a G5 team.

I'm not sure whether they'd know the opponent, but they'd probably have a pretty good idea based on communication with bowl officials. And if Hawaii is guaranteed the Hawaii Bowl if they're bowl eligible, that would be known probably before CUSA sends someone there (wonder if the bowl-eligible clause remains if Hawaii is backdoor eligible at 6-7?)

WKU vs UK only happens with the SEC's (and therefore, UK's) permission. Seems doubtful in any case. Even more doubtful since WKU is the better team.

Yeah, I was wondering about that, too. Because I think every 6-6 team has to go first. Idk how that would work.

I still think the HOD will track down a P5 team even if it's not B1G. Was supposed to be Big XII last year but they found Washington. At the very least, I hope they do, because it will be extremely disappointing if not a single C-USA team gets a crack at a P5 team.

Haha. Not really, me and my wife (ex) separated 6 years ago and it took us two years to realize we made the biggest mistake of our lifes by getting a divorce. Our original wedding date was 01/01/01 at 1:00pm. Lol. We are finally getting remarried and just wanted to keep our original date which meant a lot to both of us. She is always happy to travel with me.... Just maybe not this year.

But What happens on a normal Jan 1st? Do you get to watch bowl games? Or are you doing anniversary stuff?

Bruh, y'all can't barely crack 19k at home. Let's not pretend that y'all are something you're not.

HoD is licking their chops over Tech and it makes sense. Send NT to the Bahamas, them boys deserve it.

HOD is a bowl game, not a CUSA home game. NT took about 35,000 to the HOD in 2013. Their appearances in New Orleans Bowl in 2000's were all well-attended too. Unless the winner of the CUSA champ game and selects it, the CUSA team will be whichever of LT or NT the HOD prefers. NT is probably headed for New Mex bowl, provided they close the deal in El Paso on Saturday.

The attendance for that game is listed at 38,380. Are you telling me that only 2,380 UNLV fans attended vs 35,000 UNT fans? While I have no doubt UNT was well represented and would have outnumbered the UNLV fans, and while I have no doubt UNT would be well represented again, let's keep it realistic.

The last two years the west champ has gone to HOD and I see no reason for that to change unless WKU wins the title and chooses it. It's the only game against a P5 opponent so C-USA (and the bowl game itself) will want the best available C-USA team. With Tech relatively close-by (and having strong alumni bases in Shreveport and DFW), Tech is the obvious choice. I mean no disrespect to UNT, but unless WKU wins the title game and chooses HOD, Tech will be returning to DFW.

Id expect better attendance this year than 2014, since it is an extra day off of Christmas this year. 27th is better than the 26th in terms of timing.

I was there, UNLV might have brought 1000 if you counted the players, band, cheerleaders, fans, and support staff.

NT brought almost everyone, and when you see pictures remember the Cotton Bowl seats over 92,000.

I think it's pretty amazing we got 35,000 fans to show up after that history.

North Texas has never had consistent winning and consistent leadership in the modern college football era, we have no where to go but up.

5 or 6 win NT going to Dallas while a 9 win ODU team gets shipped to Bahamas/Hawai'i ain't happening. North Texas should be all but assured a trip to the islands now. C-USA rules now state all 7+ win teams are placed ahead of 6 win teams.

RE: Who goes to what bowl?
So if your team is bowl-eligible or still in the conversation, how would you rank the bowls as they relate to your team and what you'd like to see?

For me:

1. Military
Caveat being if that's a reasonable option; ODU's Johnny-on-the-spot reporter says it is, but I'm not convinced. Still, a day trip to Annapolis to play an AAC or ACC team is an ideal first bowl game, even if it'll probably be 42 and rainy that day.

2. Boca Raton
Warm weather, AAC opponent, easily reachable. What's not to like?

3. Heart of Dallas
It's a hub and it's the best opportunity for a P5 opponent. Falls down the list if the Big 10 can't hold up its end and they have to plug in a G5 team.

4. New Orleans
It's New Orleans. It also would be higher ranked if Troy won out and kept that little number next to their name on the ticker, but that doesn't make it not New Orleans.

5. Hawaii
Goes up the list if Boise State is there, since it might be the most prominent opponent that CUSA gets this bowl season, even if the Big 10 comes through, because who would you rather see, Boise State or the No. 10/11 Big 10 team?

6. Bahamas
Goes up the list if the United States annexes the Bahamas between now and late December. Otherwise, hey, good trip for the kids, less good trip for the fans.

7. New Mexico
more like NO Mexico amirite? But srsly, hauling arse across two-thirds of the continental U.S. to in all likelihood play the Lobos in a de facto road game is not the sugar plum dancing in an ODU fan's head.

I didn't include the Independence because in the event that they need a team, I'll presume that it's Louisiana Tech's for the asking.
