...so you're saying both backhoes played. Which would prove the notion that the Foreman doesn't like to play the Freshman backhoes is untrue?

Excavators or trackhoes - they're definitely not backhoes.

Sorry to be such a pedant.

Depends on how much PT the freshman backhoe got and when.

The cam has been awesome so far, and we are only in the demo stages. It's strangely serene watching the backhoes do their work with no sound.

Storage. Concession stuff, equipment etc.

Also the old "colored" restrooms, IIRC.

...in that I vaguely recall someone going back there once, relatively recently, and noticing that the door still said "colored."

I keep hoping to see how they are removing the lower rows.

Both "hoes" are quiet at 3:18 PM---it is visibly pouring down rain there.

I assume you mean the rows up against the wall. The concrete there isn't actually attached to the wall. There was a thick, heavy caulk line. COmparable to other similar situations I've seen, they broke the lowest 1-3 feet using a saw, jackhammer or similar.

I know you said saw, jackhammer, or similar, but I heard hatchet, axe, and saw...

Thanks!

Would they use something like a jackhammer for rows yet higher? The excavator likely cannot reach more than 40 feet from the concourse (per specs for a "large excavator" that I just looked up). The excavator on the right may be demonstrating its maximum range already.

You're right. I worked in excavation in college and I think I'm the one who mistakenly labeled the machines as backhoes. Since then, I've been busting my brain to remember the correct name for them. Trackhoes is it! They're also referred to as backloaders. I want to apologize to everyone here for that irresponsible and reckless slip up. It will never happen again. Well, I'm sure it probably will.

OMG! As a 41-year old, it still blows my mind that we lived like that. Whenever I hear stories or see documentaries about segregation, I just can't believe it!

Yeah, I noticed that too on Friday. It looks a lot different. I wish they could have replanted them around the stadium somewhere or in the parking lots. Those tress could have really come in handy for tailgaters in the September sun. Too bad. Could they be keeping them somewhere to replant later, or were they completely destroyed? Anyone know? Those tress have really grown on me over the years. I remember when they were saplings about ten years ago.

There is a VERY sturdy earth berm below the relatively shallow concrete steps they are removing. The machines simply roll down onto the dirt and reach lower. I don't think they go much lower than halfway down so that they can break and lift the concrete at the bottom, and then drop it near the top where the other one takes it away.

I saw the vehicle come off the top and start down the hill once... it looked pretty precarious with a rather sudden shift in attitude. I don't know if that was a mistake... but it was kinda scary looking.

I think they need to get Parker Schnabel down to drill some test holes. Who knows? A pay streak may be the answer to funding Athletics at Rice.

The trees are not only torn down, they are chopped up as well. Unless we've got all the king's horses, all the king's men, and then some, they're not getting re-planted anywhere.
