Sorry to be such a pedant.
You're right. I worked in excavation in college and I think I'm the one who mistakenly labeled the machines as backhoes. Since then, I've been busting my brain to remember the correct name for them. Trackhoes is it! They're also referred to as backloaders. I want to apologize to everyone here for that irresponsible and reckless slip up. It will never happen again. Well, I'm sure it probably will.
Huh. I always thought trackhoes were extremely friendly ladies of persuasion who hung out at racetracks with their gangster "boyfriends." Something along these lines:
Having watched the groundbreaking online yesterday, I must say that I was really impressed by everyone on the dais, from President Leebron to Dr. Karlgaard and of course, our benefactor, and the facility's namesake, Brian Patterson. Eveyone's joy and enthusiasm was readily apparent, and I thought Dr. K's reference to George R. Brown and the building of the stadium, and promise of further work to be done on HRS was a nice touch, and a very outward vote of confidence for Rice Football, and athletics in general. Kudos to all of them for staying the course, and a big thank you to Dr. K and everyone in the Athletics Department who helped make this happen.
The person who I was truly blown away by yesterday is Coach Bailiff. You couldn't wipe the smile off of his face, and all of his remarks - including his opening ones exhorting everyone to sit up and be proud to be Rice Owls on such a great day - was fantastic. While Brian Patterson and the other 50 donors helped put up the money for the facility, it wouldn't have come to fruition had Coach Bailiff, the staff and the players not gone on what is a truly remarkable streak of sustained success in football - the most wins in school history, three straight bowl games (winning two out of three), and our first undisputed conference championship in over 50 years. I've truly come around on Coach Bailiff over the years, and while I may still disagree with his in-game coaching decisions or various other things, there is no denying the results. But what really sold me was his speech yesterday. You could tell that he truly loves the program and this university, and yesterday's groundbreaking was a testament to what he has built here at Rice. I'm not saying that Rice needs to offer him a contract for life (and I don't think even DB would want that), but I am glad that he is at the helm of our football program.
