It is amazing how this fan base ca be so volatile. I think some of us need some Prozac.
that's a good one - lol - not us but there are 2-3 posters out there that only show up when we are slumping and say the coach sucks, the team suks blah blah blah, but hardly ever post when we were on a 10 game win streak.
Fact is we are 15-4, JJ's has 1.5 yrs under his belt trying to get his players in. He is using at least 3 BT guys that really need to be moved out of the system. Good thing we didn't give Batten a 5th year. Losing 3 our of 5 is not the end of the season.

Come on, ease up on JJ. Just three weeks ago everyone was saying he was the best coach in the universe. Then we go up against a couple of teams on road who have their best games of the season, and he's a goat. I'm not buying that for a minute. We were able to sneak into the top 25 for a week for the first time ever, but, face it, we're not a top 25 team.
We need to regroup, keep competing. If we lose to a team that is better on a given night, suck it up and move on. UAB was great tonight. ODU, not so much. Time to get up, dust ourselves off, and try it again for the first time.
these Kids can dust themselves off all they want. They will beat most of the bottom feeder teams and lose to most of the upper tier teams. It isn't dissing on anybody. It's my take on what I see. UAB would be better 9 nights out of 10. This year we're mdiocre. Time will tell if JJ can recruit well enough to lift us beyond that.
Agree, time will tell. So let's give JJ time. So far he's achieved a lot as have all his players. To have expected that we could go through this league like a hot knife through butter was unrealistic. We were spoiled by a very fortunate preseason success against a weak field. We need to keep supporting our Monarchs by showing up at the Constant Center next game.

Exactly...UAB would have beat most Top25 teams tonight ..they were on fire..
So now they JJ needs to be fired posts... If you watch much basketball you eventually realize it's an up and down year..
Haven't seen any JJ needs to be fired posts.

RE: UAB
Well, I never played D1 basketball. Shame on me. What I have seen, though, is what others have already stated. With WK, they punched us in the mouth and we didn't respond. That was a winnable game. Then MTSU got physical, we got rattled mentally, and didn't do the little things, like hit our FT's and we lose. If he had kept our mental edge, we would have won - just make a few more FT's in regulation. Then today, again, UAB got physical and we backed down. Our defense was just dreadful. We again mentally got rattled and let them get very comfortable. When you get comfortable, you hit shots, like making over 70%.
Without Ross being 100% and making our opponent's shots inside difficult, we are really in trouble. We need him big time. Mosely is also critical, where he hits the outside shots, thereby opening up the inside.
We have got to regroup or our season is headed downhill real quick. Let's hope being at home for the next 3 will help us get back on track.
Go Monarchs!

You're right. JJ is probably doing a great job with what he has to work with.I think maybe Freeman was the wild card early in the season that made the whole team look a little better than they really are. Once the book was written on how to play us, Freeman stopped opening things up for others. We don't really have a low post player and if you take away Freeman, we become very one dimensional. The true test will be if JJ can recruit similarly talented players we see at UAB, UTEP, MT, WKU. So far, I'm not seeing it. Douglas=nothing so far, Stith- book on him is he rebounds and that is it. Talley=? transfer from Randy-Mac-seriously, Freeman- a gift. I want to see some young kids that look like grown men already, just like the other upper tier teams recruit.

True but plenty of eating crow and I love JJ threads.. Can't turn on a coach after back to back losses .. It wouldn't take much more before JJ will be walking the plank.. " I give him 1 1/2 years to pick up recruiting" or "one trick pony " is not far from it.

And what exactly is wrong with that. A college teams life blood is in recruiting. So far JJ has simply picked up some warm bodies. 2 d-3 transfers, a juco, a grad student and a coaches son transfer who mostly rebounds. Talley is the only one we don't know about, but he's obviously not a down low banger.

Like I said elsewhere. OOC teams knew nothing about Freeman. They didn't stay on him and he lit them up. This opened things up for the rest of the team. Bacote, Baker and Mosley all benefited from having lots of wide open looks and a healthy Ross and Taylor got lots of stick backs. Now teams know to get in Freemans grill and the rest falls apart. The team was smoke and mirrors early and now teams know how to defend us. We don't have the talent to adjust. We used to pass the ball around the perimeter crisply looking for the open shot. Where has that gone. Now all we do is dribble, dribble, dribble.

It's stating the obvious.. Who wouldn't want the best recruits available.. I guarantee you this staff is hitting the road hard... UAB had a few transfers from VT and MDEastern other schools pick up JUCOs as well. Let's face it when we were a 5 win team kinda hard to convince kids to come here. We needed "warm bodies" in transfers to fill in immediate needs and gaps and i think JJ did a great job.. Btw you left off a few recruits on your list..which are talented and will keep ODU's momentum going in the right direction.

Try to imagine the OOC schedule WITHOUT Freeman. That's how important he was early. Now he's been largely neutralized.

Certainly hope you are right about the new recruits. Sounds like they could be good ones. the 7" kid worries me a little, sounds like a bit of a head case.

3 opponents or 3 games was the difference between a Top 20 team and barely making an appearance in the CBI while sitting at 15-4 ? I find that hard to believe . Blind resume test ?

Is it reasonable now to give up on our juco tansfer, Douglas? It seems like he's playing as if it were a pick up game, not much discipline or control.

RE: UAB
Cripes, guys and gal. Many of you seem to think we were playing a game of solitaire. The result of this game wasn't because of something we did wrong. UAB shot 75% from the field in the first half and 70% overall. This in spite playing a really good defensive ODU team that over 18 games had held the opposition to what -- somewhere around 38-39% field goal shooting. Not only that, they hit 70% of their shots from beyond the arc, and hit 92% of their free throws. We didn't do anything terribly wrong. We just ran into a UAB team that was out of their minds hot. If we were not a good team, we would have been beat by 25-30 points.
It just amazes me the number of folks who look only at ODU as if the other team had nothing to do with the outcome. UAB is leading the conference and is a very good team -- and then on top of that, they went absolutely ballistic shooting the ball tonight.
We are a good team. We will win 22 or so games. We will go to a post season tournament. That is all.
