Holy freakin warped drive! Since when do we use fantasy characters to add meat to our arguments.

I don't believe even Calkins believed what he wrote.
Since we hired someone that acts out being a fantasy character as a bb coach? Maybe that's his point? Or that CJP might be a space cadet?

As with anything Calkins writes when he's pandering to the Chris Vernon wannabes, it's hard to know exactly what he means. Pastner should hire an Xs and Os guy? Wow, that's brilliant, especially since he's about the last one in the city to put forth that opinion.

No, the point of the article was pandering to members of The Church of the Anti-Josh. Everything else was obvious and already stated filler.

I'm sorry I don't agree with this. The church of the anti josh, wow.

I thought the article was spot on.

CJP is to insecure to hire somebody that will stretch him and challenge his thinking...he wants already yielded coaches that think like him...the staff actually needs BALANCE....Damon was that last two years but....Arizona related probably...cause that is all he knows...

Even the strength coach who is your brother in law isn't safe from being axed.

Shooting %s improved for one game though....

I hope its not another AZ tie in personally. CJP knows what he wants but I'm not sure he recognizes what this team needs. He and this team need a real x's and o's genius. Terry Tippett is the best at it in high school I've seen. In his 60s probably he wouldn't want the job, but he is a high character vet who could be a genuine asset coaching and I'm sure 100k would at least get his attention. He would be my man and Josh wouldn't have anything to fear from him.

what makes Miles Simon a home run hire and at what point does Pastner run out of Arizona college buddies?

The guy was fired by his mentor at his alma mater 6 years ago and hasn't been able to land a D1 job since.

10000% agree.
NO more Arizona connections unless you're bringing in Lute Olsen or Sean Miller.

RE: Great article in the CA on Pastner needing to hire a proven assistant
I think it would be good to hire to bring in an experienced tactician and I think CJP Is smart enough to understand that sometimes it helps to have experience around.

I've been in architecture for over a decade and run my own studio for three. I still bring in consultants with more experience than me b/c on a case by case basis they can help me learn nuances of certain aspects of a project I am light on (structural consulting, zoning help, certain details). That is why skilled young people in positions of authority bring these people in. Not b/c they are poor at their jobs, but rather they are still growing and need some help with certain things.

As long as CJP understands he has limitations (indications are that he does) and skillfully tries to use his open staff spot to help address them, the dividends will be evident for the Tigers in the short term and CJP's career in the long term.

I actually very much think he will make a good hire here.

The budget issue raised does interest me. While this program compensates well, not sure how much coin can be allotted for the third assistant. We will see I suppose.

Peterson, a standout at Asheville High School who was named the 1981 high school player of the year in North Carolina, played basketball for Dean Smith at North Carolina where he was a roommate of Michael Jordan (GOOD GOOD FRIENDS).

In his first stint as head coach at Appalachian State, he led the Mountaineers to the Southern Conference Tournament Championship during the 1999–2000 season. During his single season at Tulsa, 2000–01, Peterson led the Golden Hurricane to their second NIT championship.

Too bad Buzz has a "potty mouth"! Josh is never going to allow that on his sideline....see Dom Woodson for that!

good question

It is one that tends to be ignored in messageboard discussions, but is very important.

Folks advocating changes costing more money better be ready to open their wallet (me included).

If the great tacticians could recruit they would be making the big money as head coaches. There are a lot of guys out there that would fit the bill. We spend more money than at least 80% of other D1 programs; money wouldn't be a problem for a 3rd assistant.

The reason why Damon was allowed to do this and why he is such a devastating loss, Is because he was a "Josh buddy" (Arizona affiliated) so he was trusted by Josh, therefore allowed more leeway and rope to be an influence and it resulted in success......Josh has to "let go, and let coach" As he is NOT capable of transcending this program to championship level based on HIS philosophies alone.......07-coffee3
