RE: Potential Candidates
I thought Chizik was going to Louisville too. I wouldn't want him anyway.
It doesn't matter who we hire, though.

Guy can recruit and he is not as bad as his last season at Auburn indicates. He lost control after Trooper Taylor got upset about him hiring Loefler, so he lost control of the team. Plus, he still has a buyout from Auburn and he may really want to get back coaching, so we can get him pretty cheap. I think he is worth the risk can't get much worse than McGee's defense.
he recruited Cam newton didn't he? That appears to have been all above board. And his career records outside of the Cam newton years have been pretty dismal.
Malzahn recruited Cam Newton.

Curtis Luper found Cam Newton and recruited him with the help of Malzahn and Chizik. Malzahn recruited Michael Dyer. Just trying to think outside the box. UAB has been in neglect and McGee may have left the program in worst shape than it was in to begin with (if that is possible). In my opinion we need an experienced head coach in order to turn things around. Not an unproven coordinator and Chizik is the low hanging fruit albeit not the best though. So, who would you guys like to hire?

I saw a tweet that Bill Clark at JSU is being looked at...
The man went 11-4 in his first year at JSU including a Playoff run.

NO on that one. He had great records at D-2 Valdosta State, but is 38-31 as a I-AA coach.

Just because we just found out doesn't mean UAB administration hasn't known longer.

RE: Potential Candidates
There was an article written by Drew on al.com that made us think that AD Mackin did not find out about this until in a meeting this morning with McGee.

I suspect Mackin already has a list with at least a few names on there that are of interest to him. Naturally, he will assemble a committee to help with the selection, but you bet if we can start rattling off names within minutes of the news that it wouldn't be so difficult for Mackin. Not to mention, a smart AD would be wise to keep at least an informal list around of names of interest for just such a situation.
We need to be thoughtful about this, but we can't exactly drag our feet either. Signing day is just around the corner and Spring practice not much after that, so we need a new coach and to assemble a new staff pretty fast. This is yet another of the ways in which McGee screwed us in this move.

I think you are going to see Mackin pursue guys with some level of HC experience. There may be some coordinators interviewed, but I think there is pressure now to get someone who has proven they can get it done as HC at SOME level of play. Any assistant is going to be a gamble. Someone with some HC experience could hopefully at least get us to a mediocre level and help us build the program a bit. We're so low at this point, we can't really afford the risk of someone unproven as a HC.

I have no problem going with the assistant route. Some work some don't. Arkansas didn't want Malzahn (not enough experience, high school coach, etc) and hired Beliema (several years head coach experience). May prove to be a great hire in a few years but doesn't look so good right now.
Point is that 95% of head coaching changes are gambles, very few sure things outside of about 5 D1 Programs.

Head coaches who once had big pay checks aren't coming to uab. They have a perception that they are to good for uab.
