Report: Eric Gaines worked out for the Thunder in pre-draft visit

I know EG has driven all of us crazy at times, but MAN…that highlight video in the article is impressive
It sure feels like EG is getting a hell of a lot more attention and workouts than jelly did/is
Gaines has upside. The scouts and coaches know what Jelly’s ceiling is, and they know what areas he has deficiencies in. One is a fringe NBA player, the other is a super long shot.

I hope for his sake Gaines doesn’t wind up in OKC. That’s team is super young, with a lot of really promising players, and draft picks for ages. He really needs to find a place where he could be the 3rd or 4th guy off the bench and bring some high intensity to the game.

EG is as good as EG wants to be.

EG being drafted probably is a good look in the eyes of recruits, noticing that if they go to UAB they can be drafted…

Exactly.

The vast majority of his mistakes were not from balls-to-the-wall, westbrook-esque intensity. They were largely brain fart, lazy, poor fundamental mistakes.

It's on him to improve that. I saw some intermittent improvement in it throughout the season, but he still returned to a lot of his bad habits after having good games.

Don't throw that one handed no look pass every time off the screen and roll, don't jump in the air with no idea what to do with the ball, don't gather a defensive rebound and charge into the front court for a quick, ill-advised 1 on 2 or 1 on 3 shot, don't let the guy coming up behind you on defense poke the ball away so much, don't throw a pass to a teammate that isn't there on the last possession of a game two games in a row, don't get technical fouls. I'm sure there's other stuff I missed.

He can be in the NBA if fixes that one simple issue - Don't make tons of dumb decisions on the court. Simple.

He's obviously got the athleticism and raw skills. Does he have it "between the ears"? From what I saw last year, I would say NO. But it's 100% on him to fix it, and thankfully it's a correctable issue.
Our best hope if he leaves is for him to be drafted. Gets UAB more publicity, more trading cards, more exposure, more recruits seeing us as path to NBA. Win Win. Otherwise, we need our guys to make some rosters as undrafted and that is a tall order unless they go to the Heat, lol
If he stays in the draft, he can’t come back right? Even if he doesn’t get drafted.

great question
That is correct. And he also cannot have signed with an agent.
A week from today is the deadline, and some players are already announcing their return/departure for the draft. We could hear about EG's announcement any day now
Hoping to see a return video soon. I haven’t been able to pin EG one way or the other. I think he’s probably one positive comment from an organization away from leaving, but you’d think he has all the info he needs by now. Hope he comes back but if not I hope he gets drafted. If he leaves us I’d be curious to see what we try and go after for the last scholarship because each position is kinda 2 guys deep if not 3. A big man would probably be smart that’s young or needs a year
he wont be miss

Hoping for a return.
yes hoping EG returns if his NBA stock is not rising.

He would continue to be a great asset to have with the new team. TALENT always rises!
I want him back
I'd like to see Gaines back here working on his game for the NBA.
EG just needs to realize that every play does not have to be part of a highlight reel. Just calm down and make the play that's needed - make the correct decision. The SportsCenter plays will happen as they will.
