Jamie Shaw for Rivals.com posted an article where Kaiden Rice breaks down the schools that have offered him, what they have been telling him, and what he is looking for.

https://basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/...e-best-fit

The article does not mention South Alabama, which made Rice’s final eight instead of Nevada, so I’m not sure when Shaw spoke with Rice.

Coach Kemp already follows him (probably from when Butler was in HS and Kemp was recruiting him for one of the previous schools he coached at). Scrolling through Butler's followers I see DoBO Bollinger has followed him as well as coaches from South Alabama, Murray State, UC Santa Barbara, Loyola Chicago, UC Riverside, Oregon State, Toledo, Louisiana, Morehead St, Rider, Cincinnati, Towson, Southern Illinois, UIC, South Carolina St, Bryant, Niagara, SEMO, Ole Miss, and UAB after Butler announced on 3/3 that he would be grad transferring.

Good read. Thanks for sharing. Funny how different his response about W&M is from all the others! No talk about the quality of our conference (see other threads about that topic haha). Clearly it comes down to his priorities. We will win hands down if he prioritizes one thing. We will lose if he prioritizes other things. Feels fairly black & white.

It also speaks to the need for a three point shooter for us. Ayesa?

We all know Ayesa can shoot. If we need a 3 point shooter and he isn't playing, why? It's because we are basically playing 4 against 5 on the defensive end. Adding K. Rice brings a proven D1 scorer/shooter to bolster next year's squad and provide a year for Lewis and/or someone else to develop into that position.
From a Rice decision stand point, he either wants the P5 conference experience or he's looking at a lateral move, mid major experience. If he wants to experience a major conference, we can't compete there. Does he want to have a lessened role as a 3 point specialist in a power conference? Any of the other mid majors are a modest to slight improvement over Citadel. This is where W&M becomes attractive because it boasts two things that none of the others can - location & family.
My point was your point about Ayesa. I never did hear why he was missing at the end of the season. My assumption is that his freshman year may be his best in terms of minutes.

I think you are right. Unless he makes a Burchfield type jump in his game, I think he keeps getting leapfrogged. Burch was always known as a solid defender though. Ayesa, not so much. Who do we want Ayesa taking minutes from? A developing Jake, Yuri, & Connor? A proven transfer like K Rice, or the promising incoming freshmen? My vote is no to all three possibilities.

Thatll sit well with JMU fans LOL
I want to throw Nick Farrar’s name out there - 6’6 rising SO from NC State that entered the portal a day or two ago and has gotten a lot of CAA interest. Miles Masercola tweets:

“ Since entering his name in the transfer portal Nick Farrar has heard from:
SMU, Northeastern, UNCW, College of Charleston, Western Kentucky, Stetson, Liberty, James Madison, NCCU, Hampton, Coastal Carolina, Elon, and Robert Morris.”

Farrar retweeted a quote from his HS coach saying to reach out to him regarding Farrar. In that coach’s followers list I see DoBO Bollinger popping up.

Luke to Minnesota. Great landing spot for him. Gets him close to home, friends, and family. Gets him close to familiar fishing holes. He becomes a valuable piece that a new head coach can rely on. He'll quickly become a fan favorite there. Good luck Luke!

Another name to throw out there: 6’9 rising RS JR Joe Petrakis. After a year of JUCO he walked on Kansas St’s team and is drawing interest from a variety of D1 programs since entering the portal. He just followed Coach Boatner; Coach Kemp followed him before he joined WM’s staff. He is originally from Wichita.
