RE: CAA MBB Transfers 2021
Still really like what Caraher could bring over the next two years bookended with Kochera. Love that rainbow shot and the held follow-through. No more twitter activity, since his Tribe staff follows. More footage:

This will probably become the norm, likely regardless of season success given the new transfer rules. Players looking for a better situation in struggling programs and high level players moving up at successful ones.

RE: CAA MBB Transfers 2021
A possible WM target could be Holy Cross grad 6'5 Austin Butler. Similar profile to David Caraher: wing that can shoot the three and rebounds well. Coach Kemp already follows him (probably from when Butler was in HS and Kemp was recruiting him for one of the previous schools he coached at). Scrolling through Butler's followers I see DoBO Bollinger has followed him as well as coaches from South Alabama, Murray State, UC Santa Barbara, Loyola Chicago, UC Riverside, Oregon State, Toledo, Louisiana, Morehead St, Rider, Cincinnati, Towson, Southern Illinois, UIC, South Carolina St, Bryant, Niagara, SEMO, Ole Miss, and UAB after Butler announced on 3/3 that he would be grad transferring.

CAA MBB Transfers 2021
Not sure what is going on down there. Is it a revolt or simply kids taking advantage of this off season transfer loophole?
Unfortunately, many a mid major program will take a hit this off season. Hopefully, we can retain most of our talent. This is a preview of the college free agency that many a P5 school is pushing for. I'm all for giving kids options, but IMO, it truly hurts any mid major programs development & sucks for the fan base.

Keep in mind, this was a free season for all, there will be more enter the portal than a normal year. With the new regime down there, this year was a "see how we fit before we decide to leave".

There was a very nice article in Saturday's Virginian Pilot about Connor. He said that when he came on campus for his visit he asked Dane why he wanted Connor to come to W&M, and that Dane's response was that Connor epitomized all five of the core values which we base our program on. I guess that Dane then kidded that Connor's jump shot didn't hurt either. Apparently he visited during a weekend when we had been hit by a snow storm, so he and his family could not really access all parts of the campus. But Conner said that after he spoke with Dane, he and his parents walked around for about 15 minutes and then returned so that he could go tell Dane that this is where he wanted to be.
You never know what goes through a kid's head, but this sounds like a kid who came to W&M for everything that we offer.

I always recall the comment from Justin Pierce when he was recruited and his response being he wanted to be part of the first program to take W&M to the tourney. You could argue all the issues on his post grad transfer though I think that passion kept him at W&M during his undergrad career. That’s the kind of connection you would like to have with your recruits.

I've never had an issue with grad transfers leaving the program (no matter how much I'd like them to stay) - not that you're saying you have an issue with them, to be clear.
I should preface this with saying that I have less problems with transfers than most folks because it's the athlete's one chance at a college experience and being an athlete, most of whom will not be utilizing many of these highly specialized skills in this kind of environment ever again, so they should go where they feel comfortable and are happy, even if that's for selfish reasons (whether that serves them later in life is obviously a different matter). Grad transfers, on top of that, have stuck around for their degree, etc., and may be looking for different opportunities.

Butler would not count against the thirteen scholarship limit.
Are you sure about that? I knew that Luke, for instance, has the right to play elsewhere next year if he were to decide to play a 5th year, and I knew that if he chose to stay here it would allow us to have a 14th scholarship to give to him, but I did not realize that any school that added an eligible senior to their roster would be given the extra scholarship, even if the senior played elsewhere.

I think you’re right.
‘An NCAA spokesperson told the Union-Tribune on Wednesday night that “the additional eligibility is only at the current school” but clarified that Thursday morning.
“The eligibility is available at another school,” the spokesperson said in a subsequent email, “but the scholarship will count against team limits. If a student-athlete stays at their current school but has exhausted eligibility, their aid doesn’t count against team limits.”’
