clt says done deal.
Is this that one sport where the men turn into sissies if they get grazed by another player?
If somebody tosses a brick to you and your impulse is to hit it with your head, this is your sport.
As a soccer fan with an almost 40-year tenure, I am quite dismayed with the level of play in the MLS. I can't force myself to watch it. Even though our market (South Florida) gets the next MLS team, I can not get excited.

Agreed. I live right outside Houston, and have honestly tried to get into watching the Houston Dynamo. Just can't do it.

And for those who ridicule the sport for the diving, it's well deserved. It wasn't always like this though. Back in the 80's, there was more contact, and guys just played through it. The recent Presidents of FIFA (the governing body of the sport) are the reason the sport has become a dive fest. Even though I believe it's in the rules for players to be carded for diving, it's very rarely ever enforced, and has been allowed to go on and on to the point where it's now unfortunately just commonplace and expected.

We're starting to see some diving in the NBA now also. Hopefully they'll have the balls to do something about it before it goes any further.
clt says the women’s game is more watchable due to lack of diving

I live in DC and follow DC United pretty closely. I think the signing of Rooney last year and him debuting at our new stadium (which opened halfway through the season) is what sparked the interest in the comminity, I see so much support for the team that I hadn't seen before. They are treated as a 5th big team in the city, when in years past they were completely ignored. Not to mention they went from dead last to a playoff berth from when Rooney started last year.

But as much as I like it and as fun as going to games can be, the level of competition just isn't comparable to European leagues. Rooney is too good for the team even during the twilight of his career. It will be interesting to see how the team fares now that he is leaving after this season.

Agreed, the MLS just isn't a great product right now. But it is significantly better than it was a decade ago. So maybe it will continue to be enforced. As a lifelong fan/player I wish they would go with the simplest solution to stop diving. If you are caught once, you get a warning, twice a game suspension, three times 2 games, fourth time, 4 games. It's hard to catch them in the act, but you can easily handle this after the fact. But soccer is definitely not the only sport with a diving problem these days.

Diving is not a big problem elsewhere. Pared with strong penalties for diving and an overall strong product, various European leagues are far more watchable than MLS. MLS, unfortunately, is not getting past being the league where top players go to retire.

I do like the name for the Houston Dynamo. For obvious reasons...

Players dive because they are rewarded for diving. Take away the reward and the diving will cease. Leagues have started giving cards for diving which will help. VAR should help as well if the leagues ever figure out how to implement it properly.

MLS is a young league relative to European leagues so it's logical the level of play is well below that of Europe. IMO, MLS has increased its level of play and is decreasing it's reliance on older overseas players. Let's be honest, the reason MLS liked to bring over older players isn't for their play, it is for marketing. Zlatan has done well but he's a freak and, IMO, an exception to the rule. It looks like more and more South Americans are coming up to MLS at a young age so that will hopefully further decrease the notion of MLS are a "retirement home" for aging European stars.

What’s a red card? Sounds bad.

Diving is not a problem elsewhere in sports, or elsewhere in soccer? I watch the premier league games every week, and I can assure you there is diving there. And if you mean other sports, have you watched a basketball game lately?
