Never been to Detroit, but I've seen "Robocop" and "The Crow", so I know a little about the city.

We stay at the Marriott Renaissance Center every time we go to championship game. Indoor parking garage, nice lounge in lobby, will have biggest gathering of fans. Can also hop on the tram and get off a couple of blocks from Ford Field.

It's also not too far from Stadium. Walkable, if you want.

We are 2 1/2-3 point "dogs".

That just gives ammo to the “We’re always outmatched in Bowls!” crowd.

And Rod’s pathetic statement gives ammo to the “We weren’t motivated!” crowd that said the same thing after the Utah St (starting a true freshman QB) loss.

Sagarin ratings for recent bowl match ups

2017 Duke (38) NIU (68)
2015 Boise (38) NIU (84)
2014 Marsh(23) NIU (72)

Dukes team composite talent rating is 84.5. Other teams at 84.5 are Wisconsin, TCU and Utah. NIUs composite is 78.8. Same as FIU, UNLV and Akron.

NIU can certainly win, but as I've said, their not very evenly matched in these last few bowl games.
Guessing we will not show up like the second half of the CMU game... The trend continues.

Thanks! Looking for a cheap airline ticket for an up and back from MIA to Detroit.

I'd love for Trump to be our coach because then I wouldn't have to live in fear of nuclear war breaking out over some dumb*** dick measuring feud like he's got going on Twitter with NK.

Trump would win games and melt snowflakes at Huskie Stadium.

agreed.

this whole this is quite amusing...I'm not sure which part is the most amusing?

- that people think a bunch of people/media would care that a HC would let on that a team would rather be on a beach than in Detroit on December 26th?
- that some on here think that because our team didn't get the location they wanted, they'll perform worse? How have our performances been in nice locales?
- that some on here think it doesn't matter to players if they're home for the holidays, and that's 'not ok' for them to think...
- that some people are saying RC dissed Duke or the bowl? he did nothing of the sort
- that some people think RC will ever be a media darling? He sucks at it, always will.

Get a life folks. And get to Detroit on Dec 26th.

+1 there are a many on here who absolutely hate Rod Carey and jumped for joy when he said that so they could push their narrative.

I don't hate Carey, but what he said was dumb. I'll even defend Carey, as he does have a winning record, has owned the Big10, and seems to be recruiting at a high level.

Time to move on from the Carey drama and enjoy the bowl game. It's football boys, not war.
Carey hasn't shown any ability to get his team ready to play in these bowls. Don't think it's going to change. Hopefully, I'm wrong but history suggests we don't show up. When we got destroyed by Marshall, CMU won that epic game against WKU, who beat Marshall in the regular season in the Bahamas. Whatever we've been doing in preparation for the bowls, I hope we change it up...

Trump would run it down the opponent's throat and win while the limp wristers in the stands watching would complain that he is being too rough. Then after winning the same snowflakes would accuse him of conspiring with Toledo. 01-wingedeagle
Use of the words trump and huskies in same sentences is plainly wrong on so many levels.

By letting the media know the team was not excited for the bowl game was a total total disrespect to the bowl committee.

MD, seriously stop lying. Where did he say they aren’t excited for the bowl game? Please, show us. You’re literally making up things. I’m very curious what your spin zone for straight up lying is going to be.
I am in. Going to the game with my wife. Was going to fly but best to drive from Chicago. Seeing some sound rational helped me decide it will be worth going.

Your own attitude will decide whether it is worth going. I understand people might be upset if the team loses, but does that really make your trip not "worth it"? It's a college football game. There are MUCH bigger things in life. Would it be disappointing if NIU shows up uninspired and gets run off the field? Sure. Would it ruin my trip and the time I spent with fans, family, visiting another city, eating, drinking, simply watching NIU play again, etc.?

Go to the game and have a great time. Don't let some moron on the internet, who has no connection to the team and has probably never played a sport in his life, try and ruin your enjoyment.

Also, the total on the game is at 47.5 right now. I'll take the under on that considering our offense is anemic. If Duke scores 24+ we'll lose.

Miami and all:

Diehard is correct about the Marriott & MACC. Just FYI, yesterday athletics has posted that there are special NIU rates at The Westin Book Cadillac. Looks to be a bit closer than Renaissance. Either would be fine choices.

Sounds like Packages will be announced later today.

On the Niuhuskies website the comment about packages being announced later today was on there yesterday too. So I'm not sure when they will be announced.
If anyone is looking for something close to stadium (4 block walk or less) there's

Greektown Casino- Nice rooms but they are filling up fast. They only had kings yesterday.

Hilton Garden- Closest hotel to stadium. Rooms are aren't greatest, but by no means bad. Clean, simple.

Atheneum Suites- I have never stayed there, but a co worker who stays in The D for work. He has stayed at all 3 and said it's a nice place, all suites obviously.

All 3 are close to Greektown if you want something to eat, drink, gamble. There is also Aloft which I here is a nice place, chain.

Other than that I wouldn't venture much further than that walking, at least not off main drags.

There is also a people mover if you are staying near Cobo. I think it's like $1.

For the last MACC I attended, I flew to Detroit from O'Hare. I also flew once from Midway. It's better and easier to drive, considering all the hassles and time you'll spend at the airport. In addition, DTW is not too close to downtown Detroit, and it cost me over $60.00 in taxi/limo fare (plus tip).
For the MACC games, NIU had a bus that went to the game and back immediately after the game, so there is no staying over. They also had something with a stay-over. Bus originated in DeKalb with a pick-up stop in Oak Brook. It may be an option for some if they have it again.
