You could make the case that all winning teams have a certain amount of luck. Just look back and any number of champions and you could probably point out a game or two on their way to the title that they were lucky to pull out.

If we luck our way to a title, so be it.
Finwood listed by Mike Barber as potential candidate to replace Patrick Mason at VT;

Certainly a lot of "winning" teams benefited from luck.
There may be some luck. But there's also a lot of skilled guys who get timely hits because they are good under pressure. ALSO ODU has a left handed heavy line up; that does have a tendency to wear down opposing pitching staffs (predominantly right handers). Hence, mistakes = lots of late hits.

Heard from a very connected source at VT yesterday this was going to happen and Finwood would be a TOP target.
Baseball is not nor ever has been "predictive".

The Orioles are hated by Pecota and other predictive measurements and routinely are middle of the pack or worse in obp, pitching, defense etc.

Yet over the last 5 years, the Orioles have the best overall record of any team in the very competitive AL East and luck has NOTHING to do with it.

Advanced metrics are one slice of the pie but anyone who doesn't understand that they are not even remotely correct a significant portion of the time is not worth taking seriously..........ever.
If Finnwood leaves for V Tech, Wood needs to make an extremely hard push at Jim Foster from Army. He spent years URI with awful facilities and basically a high school baseball field and turned them into an extremely competitive program. I cannot imagine what he could do with ODU's facilities.
This would be a shame. We have just started to get plugged into local recruiting, and now would likely have to start over AND compete against Finwood who seems to have built some solid relationships in this area.

Or... figure out a way to pay the man to stay. But as we all know that can't happen at this juncture. I would really really hate to see him go to VT and take the recruiting ends. That would be a huge blow to the team.
"The $20 million renovation of English Field is scheduled to be completed in time for the 2018 season."

I'm afraid it isn't always all about salary.
Hire Wiley Lee!

Why?? He played at ODU, won a couple of State championships at Great Bridge. Has very close ties to the local talent.
Just don't think he is a good coach. Put it this way. In my life, ODU has never hired a coach in any sport that I am pretty sure I am better than. Now is not the time to start.

He would also be a complete 180 in terms of coaching style from Chris.

But maybe we should pump the brakes a little until he actually accepts an interview or job.

Obviously, im just getting carried away. I was rooting for him when Finwood got hired.
You also talked about fighting with teammates in the locker room. The fact that he has had a ton of talent roll through his program does not make him a great coach. Sorry, he just isn't a great coach, or person, for that matter.
