UCF loses at home to Penn (4-5) 58-49
USF escapes at home against Bethune-Cookman (3-8) in OT 79-73

The only good news with all this is, if we believe UC is top 25 good, the Bearcats should romp through the AAC this year crushing unworthy opponents. Memphis did that in C-USA after UC and Louisville went to the Big East.

Alternately, I get the feeling UC will be tested at UCF and USF, especially if the 'Cats can't install some offense to get the ball to the basket to shoot, draw the foul or kick it out for open jumpers. Caupain will be taller and stronger than most guarding him and I like it when they clear out and let him attack from the post. Just a little more discipline on that end of the court and this team could be Mick's best.

UCF is about to crash back down to earth. Their fans on the AAC board have been posting about RPI rankings constantly these last few weeks.
AAC football has been better than I expected over the last x years....

unfortunately, AAC basketball has been WORSE than I expected over same time frame...

Resting Ollie Face.

He constantly looks like he's about to ask "Who farted?".

LMAO!!! That's perfect!

Yeah, the AAC is not good this year. Anything more than 3 losses in conference will be a disappointment.

UCF maybe. What makes you say USF? They are terrible.

So true...

and ironically, I thought hoops would be the strong suit of this league, as I still think it SHOULD be...

The problem is Temple, Memphis, Tulsa, Houston...teams that are traditionally stronger in basketball, are switching their focus to football. Funny thing is, three of those teams I mentioned have played for a national championship in basketball and will NEVER sniff one in football.

League needs to focus more on hoops. There is a lot of potential here.

Meh- Houston has not been relevant in basketball in over 30 years. Ever watch a game at their place-- you are lucky to get 2,000 people in the building.

Truth be told, basketball just is not of importance to schools in this conference outside of UC, UConn, Memphis and Temple. Schools like East Carolina, Houston, Tulane and UCF actually consider baseball their #2 sport (in ECU and Tulane's case it is their #1 sport). SMU gave it a whirl for the past few years, but they had to cheat to be competitive and I suspect they will begin scaling back to where they were pre-Larry Brown.

We share some cultural similarities to many schools in this conference, but the value on hoops is very different.

Edit: I know you have in the past posted/tweeted in the past that UC needs to put more money into hoops and less on football; but honestly how much more do you want them to spend? The HC is one of the 25 highest paid coaches in the country and we are spending $86M on a refurbished arena.
I don't know, it seems like lately a bunch of AAC schools have hired really accomplished coaches. Tubby Smith at Memphis, Kelvin Sampson at Houston, Haith at Tulsa, Dunleavy at Tulane, Johnny Dawkins at UCF, even USF hiring Calipari's top assistant. Plus, of course, SMU with their Larry Brown move.

Yep, they have been of late. Going back to Big East days though they just always seemed like they saved their best for UC. Close, contested games in Tampa stick in my mind.

Honestly I think that is more a product of our system than USF giving their best to UC. Aside for the Lipscomb's of the world, what win comes easy for UC?

True. When scoring is a problem, opponents that are reasonably physical on the boards and play some defense, almost guarantee we'll go down to the wire.

We always seem to struggle at USF... I don't know why, but we always make it interesting down there.
Charleston 53
ECU 35

Yep that's a final

ECU basketball is a joke. AAC bottom feeders are so bad.
#16 South Carolina went in to the house of horrors @ USF and are down 37-31 at the half.
Honestly. How many of these damn tournaments does U.K. Play in? 5?

Why doesn't under armor do some sort of tourney for their teams? UC ND Wisconsin UCLA that would be nice.
Memphis won at Oklahoma today in OT 99-94, so that is a good win for the AAC.

Apparently they just started to this year. It was earlier this week. Matchups were not very good though. Auburn vs. Boston College and South Carolina vs. Seton Hall.
