It’s never too early to speculate. With the season ¾ of the way down, who do you have to go bowling this year?

By my calculations we have 6 tie-ins and a backup with the Independence Bowl. Looking at the backup, the ACC should have a team available no question. But the SEC is highly doubtful because they need 10-12 teams to qualify to send a team.

That leaves CUSA with 7 slots. Who’s in, who’s a push, who’s out?
Here’s what I have, I no particular order:

Definitely in:
Western – ODU – Middle – La Tech – Mississippi Southern

Push:
North Texas – needs two wins between UTSA, LTU, WKU, USM & UTEP
Charlotte – needs three wins between USM, Rice, MTSU & UTSA
UTSA – needs three wins between UNT, MTSU, LTU, & TAMU & UNCC

My best guess is that only UNT makes it to 6 and CUSA will put 6 teams in bowls.
We suck. Worst team in C-USA other than FAU and they prob beat us at FAU. We will not be bowling barring the forfeit of the remaining 5 schools on our schedule. If our basketball team pulls this same **** I'm going to be very disappointed.

I can agree with that assessment.
What happened to Dawgxas' response? Did he recant? What a puss.
we've already secured our nola spot at 6-6/7-5....my crystal ball/ouija board told me so 03-wink

having said that, we could win out and choose the same bowl....

I still have a chaw in my craw that we lost the liberty bowl and have zero backing for the ccg champ in a larger capacity....HoD is the obvious choice so we can match up against a p5....but just jfc how coos coos administrates have just let go of the rope over the years...

it's gotten to the point where the ccg carries more weight than any bowls other than a chance at the access bid.....ya know, the one not one cusa team has ever been able to compete in....
Apparently not MTSU, according to SB nation 03-razz

North Texas may sneak in at 5-7 due to the excellent Apr score amongst teams close to getting to six wins...
I hope USM doesn't end up in that sorry NO bowl. I wish we traded out that bowl for another one. The NO committee vies to get USM for their bowl just like the sunbelt constantly talks about getting USM. I get so tired of these scenarios. One poster was right, we could einnout and still end up in the NO bowl. I HOPE NOT!!
Whats wrong with NO?

While it was ok last year, I would be very disappointed to go back there this year. Better than the bahamas maybe, but one of our worst bowls.
I'll take a stab at predicting the Bowl Game too:

WKU - Heart of Dallas - $1,100,000 (payout)... would like to see them beat the B10
UMT - Bahamas - $450,000... isn't the AD from the Bahamas or somewhere close?
ODU - Boca Bowl - $400,000... our wet dream scenario against the American
LT - Hawai'i - $650,00... because they don't want New Orleans/SunBelt maybe?
USM - New Orleans - $500,000... by default. I think they don't want NO either.
UNT - New Mexico - $456,250... awesome turn around by the Mean Green.

Not sure how LT folks feel about New Orleans and playing the SunBelt. What's the consensus?

Not sure they'd have much problem playing most of the Sun Belt, though they would likely prefer not to play the Cajuns and I expect many of their fans and administrators would prefer to swim to Hawaii, rather than play ULM.

All that said, ULM is 2-5 and the Cajuns are 3-4 and ULM still has to play App State and the Cajuns still have to play UGA and Georgia Southern, it seems both are looking at 5-6 at best going into their season ending matchup and both failing to reach six wins seem pretty likely.

Of course Tech would obliterate either of them...

If we weren't in New Orleans last year I would feel better about going back. This year I would rather go somewhere else and play someone else. Do we actually have the Bahamas this year? I think I read somewhere that this was our year out of the Bahamas. Would enjoy going to HOD, but any of the bowls are ok with me. NO would be no better than third on my list of choices.

I think there will be 6 of us eligible - WKU, MT, La Tech, USM, UNT, and ODU. I also think that Independence will be open and we will fill it.

If WKU or La Tech win the title...

Heart of Dallas - WKU
Independence - La Tech
New Orleans - USM
New Mexico - UNT
Boca Raton - MT
Hawaii - ODU

If WKU slips up and MT wins the title, flip MT and WKU. I think it's that simple this year given the teams that will be eligible and where they have gone the past few years. I think the conference office and our teams will want our two division winners against P5 schools, and then it's just geography after that, with the exception of ODU. It's almost a rite of passage to play your first bowl game at an incredibly far destination. Hawaii ain't a bad place to do it.
UNT went to the New Orleans bowl for straight years and our fans loved it (as far as I can tell). Of course, at the time in the Sun Belt it was the only real option for the conference champion so there wasn't a choice. I could see it not being a big deal for La Tech folks but you can do MUCH worse than New Orleans (i.e. New Mexico ... which I'm sure is a lovely place and UNT would love to go if invited ... um ... yeah ... )
