Heres a CBS ranking for the bowl pre (16) and post (30) game.

Its not bad, its the finale of the opening bowl weekend. Its in the Superdome. Its in New Orleans. There is no downside to it other than possible opponent not being to your liking.

From our perspective, yes you are right. But from USM's perspective I feel like its a different issue. If we had gone to the same bowl game 4 times since 2004 with appearances against North Texas, Troy, ASU, and MTSU (no disrespect) we would be tired of it as well.

+1

disagree....we travel with 10+ to nola or 5k in a non recruiting area....

at the end of the day, what really matters the most?

I like everything about it except the opponent. It's in New Orleans. It's prime time on Saturday night on ESPN with no other games against it. It doesn't mess with your Christmas plans. I just wish we didn't have to play down. Nobody is going to get excited about playing a sunbelt team.

There are 5 games before it including our New Mexico bowl.

Even though the N.O. Bowl was the only one on in the evening, it still had the lowest tv ratings for that Saturday last year.

It was the only one running opposite a NFL game.

Money

hence the point....we split payout $$$ regardless....

recruits kinda dig booties in the seats....it's that warm fuzzy thingy that screams, "momma's still there"
It's just my opinion but I don't buy season tickets every year with hopes that the season ends with playing a sunbelt team. Yes we are close to New Orleans but again for me I don't want to play the NO bowl because it seems the sunbelt wants to make a statement through that bowl that "We are better than CUSA" or "We belong in CUSA." That's one reason the sunbelt wants USM because we've played in that toilet bowl almost every year. Just my feelings.

Everyone in the Sun Belt would love to take a shot at any of us that are former Belters, MT and WKU especially I'd expect, not that I blame them.

Save the indignation Belt lurkers, I understand most of you would prefer a P5 matchup as most G5 nembers would, but I don't think I'm overstating when I say that there are more than a few fan bases in the Belt that would take great joy in beating a former conference mate.

I get ya....there is a part of me that understands and sees that value....

I tend to view it more from what matters more to butts in the seats and recruiting....I like continuing to improve facilities and create interest so we can make an attempt to merge with the higher profile leftovers once the big boys leave the lower tier p5s in the dust in ~8 yrs (and that is an arguable if)

there are pros and cons relative to all of our limited bowl selections....

04-cheers and enjoy the day!
Call playing so driven conservative at the end of this game

If you go just beatdown their champ like we did last season
Next loss mathematically eliminates us for a bowl. But, by Akron we were eliminated if we want to be real.
So for UTSA to go bowling. They need to win 1 out of the following @MTSU, @LaTech @ Texas A&M assuming they can handle Charlotte in the last game.

Would love for them to get the win vs MTSU because I don't want to go to @LaTech needing the win.
With tonight's win over the Miners, ODU needs to win one of the last four to go bowling for the first time. OK -- I'll say it. I do believe the Monarchs are going bowling this year.

Why not both? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It sure would help us out.

I have to agree with Native Georgian. I think we will have 5 bowl teams with UNT and UTSA coming up a game or 2 short. ODU, WKU, MT, USM and LT. All of those have a great shot at winning their bowls too but we will be one team short of fulfilling the conference's 6 slots.
