I hope this isn't true. If it is I hope he stays through the bowl game but then there's a real good chance it'll be 'back to reality' for Tiger football.
Calkins was saying that the schools efforts to keep Fuente were 'made public' because the administration know Fuente is gone. Lets the fans know a real, early, honest effort was made.

Very select group --- Alabama, Memphis, Notre Dame maybe ...

I like the way you think 04-cheers

Fuente may not feel he can continue the current level of success the program is experiencing.

That's true. With Lynch probably going to the NFL we might only win 6 games next year and some of the luster will be off.

I don't think it was made public just for the fans sake.

You make it public to show that you have a commitment to football and are willing to pay for it.
If he leaves it's Venables,Babers,Pruitt,Smart,Sanford,Grantham.

I think it probably was, at least partially.

I agree, it has been mentioned that this happened after the Ole Miss game and at that point in the season they were prepared to make that offer regardless of how this season played out. With Fuente there is so much promise for the future. Hard to improve the W-L numbers every year, but conference championships are in sight.

Fans, other conferences, other coaches. Shows commitment to FB is not going away.
I actually think Fuente to Va Tech is a good fit. He'll have a great career there, IMO, much like Beamer. He won't be a top-tier elite guy, but he'll be in the second tier of good coaches.

I have no doubt that some of you will misinterpret that as passive aggressive knock on Fuente.

There are only a few guys like Nick Saban and Urban Meyer who win multiple national championships. I don't think Fuente will ever be one of those guys. However, I do think, like Beamer, he'll make one run at a national championship at some point in his career. I also think he'll consistently win 7-9 games at Va Tech, with two-three really good years above and beyond that.
Kiffen is a poison in TN politics. The BOR might not even approve the hire.
Let's get him off the list.
If it's where JF wants to go, good luck and I wish him well. I personally don't think virginia tech is a very good job. It's a top-half team in the ACC but it's hardly a home run.
Get Charlie Strong if Texas cans him
Good for him, it was a great ride. Hopefully we can bring in someone that will keep the program moving forward.
So, Les Miles to Memphis???
