Every program deserves to have a stadium of their own and they plan to renovate the Braves stadium down to 35,000 or so seats I believe. It seems to me to be prudent to build for the future.

I thought the idea is to build dorms around the reconfigured stadium. That makes a lot of sense to me in terms of helping student attendance. I am as big of an App fan as thefe is, but i'D be hard pressed to attend App games if I had to fight that traffic and parking.

That's like saying everyone deserves a house and a 10k square foot one to start. Based on what we've seen so far, I'm not sure GaSt deserves a football program much less a stadium.

No it is like saying, if you bought land to renovate a house, you wouldn't be allowed to due to a rival thinking you don't deserve it.
Good thing you didn't see Miami in the 70s. You would have shut down their program before they were a National Champion several times.

It will be interesting to see where the funds come from as we had to raise all the cash upfront for our operations center per the Georgia BOR.
We know. You will be watching us! LOL. LOL. LOL.

I'm lost what's wrong with us wanting to have our own stadium.

When 1,000 people are showing up to a game, a stadium is the least of your worries. Especially a 55k seat one. I just don't see how they could ever make that stadium work.

For academics, I can understand how moving the campus there makes sense.

I think you might be on to something. I mean 2-23 or what ever it is now has nothing to do with that. Geez.07-coffee3

In season 1, the attendance plummeted after the first couple games.

We were top 10 in FCS attendance that year but...

Damn right I'll be watching and it has nothing to do with hate or love for GaState as you wish. For myself, and I only speak for myself, it's about tax dollars.
(10-12-2015 08:54 AM)App State 85 Wrote: [ -> ]Georgia State fans I have a serious question; In your opinion, has Trent Miles and his staff lost the ear of these players? On one occasion Saturday a GSU player had a penalty called on him, you could see Miles on TV say "Get off"... As player came to sidelines Miles talked to him but, to me, it looked like the player pretty much just walked away. On the stadium issue, I do think having your own stadium---smaller capacity Turner Field, will help your atmosphere.

The App game last year showed they lost this team. They also are incapable of recruiting in state or out. Ben had a story of the JUCO recruiting failure under Miles. Pretty devastating. I am hoping that he and his staff are gone after Ball State.

Yeah that is why the Braves moved. LOL

Nobody said that is WHY they moved. However, it has been stated many times that Turner is too big for baseball and the new stadium will have a much smaller capacity.

Turner has a capacity of 49k and change. I think we should build it out to 40k. You get one shot to do this right.
30k with built in expansion plans to 40k would be better to try and match supply with demand until attendance warrants over 30k.

Many App fans want to expand our stadium, but until we have over 10k season ticket holders I want to hold where we are or build an endzone complex for club seats and boxes where the current demand can support it.

I know the devil's advocate will say that will make it difficult to bring in P5s for home and homes. My response is P5s aren't coming due to stadium size, it's all about recruiting areas for them.

That dynamic is changing. P5 programs now prefer to work a two for one deal in place of large guarantees. You keep your gate and we'll keep ours. NC State didn't need to play a game 3 hours away at ODU for recruiting purposes. Wake certainly isn't playing in Boone for recruiting. The issue is not having the capacity to accomodate games like WF and Marshall. A lot of people argue the bank, but the problem is you can't sell a wet piece of grass to fans of schools who are accustomed to sitting in actual seats.
I made a late Friday decision to road trip to see the game. After fighting rain the whole way and a bit of ATL traffic on I-85 near spaghetti junction, we arrived at the Yellow Lot about 12:15 to clearing skies. I found the lot to be a sweet setup for tailgating- plenty of space, plenty of port-a-johns, and plenty of police surveillance. It was a short walk to the dome and we had no panhandlers asking for money. We got to our seats about 40 minutes before kick off and plopped down 6 rows up on the 40. To me, it appeared the App had about an equal number of fans in the stands to Ga State, not counting their band, the youth cheerleaders in the end zone, and luxury seats (I couldn't tell how full they were.) I was surprised to be given a game program walking in (similar to NFL game guides.) Ga State had the necessary things for a college "feel": a band, cheerleaders, entrance, etc. What was missing was butts in the seats, but as been discussed earlier, wins will help take care of that. The game had more of a basketball game feel with the way the announcer handled his duties- maybe he should tone it down a little? Overall, the game was swallowed up in the dome. After the win, we had the short walk back- no panhandlers again, made tracks to one of a favorite restaurants, and then our hotel. I can see where Ga State has potential with their set up, but man, they are a long way from realizing it...

I honestly think it's silly to go from 49 to 30 to 40. I don't believe in rework. Temple and Memphis are proving how fast a tour around can come. I especially love Temple scheduling Penn State and Notre Dame this season at home. They may actually average 50k per game this season. And they were sucking wind attendance wise just a couple seasons back. But they got PSU and ND. Because they play in a 70k seat stadium. No way they get that game in a 30k seat stadium.

Thank you for making the trip. Come back in 2017. It might be our only season in the Blank dome next door before Turner.

I agree. When you're down-scaling a facility, it doesn't make sense to go smaller and plan a later expansion. It would cost the same (or possibly even more) to go to 30K, so it doesn't make financial sense to go smaller. App fans have a serious aversion to having empty seats, and I get that. It's an "atmosphere" thing. In a case like this, I think you have to make the financially responsible decision though.

That police officer on the bike is an App grad. Class of '91. I played intramural volleyball with him.

could not agree more about App fans having a serious aversion to empty seats, I also think a lot of them are still pissed that we fired Moore, we moved up to the FBS, and now they are basically fighting the last battle in a vein attempt to hang on to the past, once we add seats and finally look like a real FBS program, it will be official, the old ways are gone. Its obvious my stand on the issue, we must expand within the next 3-5 years or we risk falling behind other programs, not only in the SBC but also in CUSA, people do not like to hear this, but its a fact 3 and 4 star recruits do not want to play in a stadium that resembles a large high school, nor do they want to play in the what might become the smallest seating stadium in the country. Adding seats does not guarantee we will land consistently 3 or 4 star recruits, but it is a guarantee that they will not play for us in the smallest, and outdated stadium in the FBS.
remove the track and add an endzone premium seating, the rest isn't necessary based upon season ticket sales.
of that we can all agree, we got to get rid of the track, we can argue what comes next later. Speaking of which, has anyone close to the program heard anything to atleast give us hope?
Gillin is looking into a master plan for athletic facilities, I think you'll see us find a place for track first, hopefully within a year.

Our stadium doesn't look like a large high school because of the number of seats, it looks that way because of the cheap route we took to construct the east side. Looks absolutely awful. Adding more seats with no one sitting in them isn't going to fix that unfortunately.
